Physics of puncturing a glass bottle without shattering:
When a nail or other sharp object, like Bou-Shuriken, is used to puncture a glass bottle, the force of the impact creates a small crack in the glass. This crack propagates outward from the point of impact, and if it reaches a critical size, the bottle will shatter. However, if the crack is kept small, the bottle can be punctured without shattering.
There are a few factors that influence whether or not a glass bottle will shatter when it is punctured. One factor is the speed of the impact. If the impact is too fast, the crack will propagate too quickly and the bottle will shatter. Another factor is the angle of the impact. If the impact is not perpendicular to the surface of the glass, the crack will be more likely to propagate in an uncontrolled manner and the bottle will shatter.
The final factor that influences whether or not a glass bottle will shatter when it is punctured is the type of glass. Some types of glass, such as tempered glass, are more resistant to shattering than others.
To puncture a glass bottle without shattering, it is important to use a sharp object and to apply force slowly and carefully. The impact should be perpendicular to the surface of the glass, and the object should be inserted into the glass at a shallow angle. If the crack propagates too far, the bottle will shatter.
Here are some additional tips for puncturing a glass bottle without shattering:
* Use a sharp object. A dull object will create a larger crack, which is more likely to propagate and cause the bottle to shatter.
* Apply force slowly and carefully. Applying too much force too quickly will cause the crack to propagate too quickly and the bottle will shatter.
* Insert the object into the glass at a shallow angle. A shallow angle will help to keep the crack small.
* If the crack propagates too far, stop and try again. It is better to try again than to shatter the bottle.

Our goal is to develop a technique that can accurately and consistently
throw sharp objects with enough force to puncture a target.
The following is the narration written and edited in English by Nonaka-sensei for the YouTube video entitled "the Art of Kondo Ryu Shuriken".
Introduction
1. The founder of Kondo Ryu Shuriken Jutsu, Shinden Kondo, was born in 1930 in the City of Niihama on the island of Shikoku.
2. Kondo Ryu Shuriken Jutsu is the art of throwing shuriken straight without rotation, which achieves maximum effectiveness in actual combat. It is a unique art that the founder himself developed over his 30 years of experience.
3. In addition to shuriken, the technique of Kondo Ryu can be applied to other items such as large needles, thick kitchen knives, etc. These items are thrown in straight lines without rotation, making them a formidable weapon.
Chapter 1: Technique (1)
1. Many different schools exist for shuriken, but regardless of the school, it can be said that even an expert finds it difficult to throw shuriken from a distance of 4-ken (7.28m) and accurately strike a target; especially without the shuriken spinning or turning. Here we see a throw from a distance of 5-ken (9m). An expert from Kondo Ryu can throw shuriken without spinning or turning it from any practical distance.
2. Any attempt to escape from a continuous barrage of shuriken attacks would be extremely difficult.
3. It is one of the most important drills to throw shuriken while changing one's distance and position from the target. The prevention of spinning or turning of the shuriken is achieved by pressing down on the tail end of the shuriken and snapping the wrist at the moment it leaves the hand. The amount of pressure needed varies according to the throwing distance.
4. The quick throw or reverse side throw whilst instantly turning could probably beat the best gunslingers.
Chapter 1 - Technique (2)
Here we see a practical performance of the techniques shown in Chapter 1, Technique (1).
Chapter 2: At the Dojo
2. Here, at his 5-ken (9-meter) octagonal dojo, the Grand Master demonstrates some of the various throwing techniques of Kondo Ryu Shuriken Jutsu. It is easy to imagine the devastating results of his throws aimed at multiple enemies.
a) At point blank range, the shotgun throw is particularly effective
b) The reverse side throw is to the dominant hand side
c) Eight directional continuous throws are possible
d) This throwing sticks the opponents' foot to the ground, with the shuriken ending up vertically
e) Techniques also include being able to throw the shuriken from difficult situations, such as lying on one's back
2. To be able to perform in any situation, all the techniques need to be practical to a very high level.
Chapter 3 - in the wood
1. The necessity to be able to throw in many different conditions means that practice is not limited to the dojo. The Grand Master is sharpening his skills by targeting pine trees in the mountains.
2. Pinpoint accuracy is required to hit the thin wood set horizontally in the concrete wall.
3. Unlike the target at that height, it is more difficult to fit the target on the ground. Additionally, high technique is required to stick the target on the shore with the wind blowing hard.
Chapter 3: In the open air
1. Throwing from as far away as possible without rotating the shuriken. This drill is very effective and important.
Chapter 4: The ultimate technique
1. This is the Kondo-ryu's ultimate technique of puncturing the bottle seen on the TV. Only his technique of throwing a shuriken straight without rotating it can achieve this.
Chapter 5 - How to make and grip shuriken
1. The standard size in Kondo Ryu is shown. They vary in length and diameter according to throwers' physical characters, such as the sizes of their palms and arm strength.
2. It is fun and easy to make your own shuriken fitted for you. Just follow these steps:
1) Cut material to the prescribed length.
2) Make the point of the shuriken
3) Sharpen the point with a grinder.
3) sharpen the lined part with a grinder
4) File the rear half of the bar, leaving the tail and as it is. This is the part where the thrower adds the last finishing touch in releasing.
5) Fastly, file the point with emery paper
3. It is of great importance to know how to grip a shuriken.
4. Stretch your five fingers and place the shuriken in the groove between your index finger and middle finger. Then hold it with the middle finger and thumb, placing your index finger lightly on the shuriken.
5. The shuriken should be held as if it is wrapped in your palm.
6. The theme "making a shuriken fly without rotating it from any distance" is the biggest and most difficult problem required of Shuriken Jutsu.
7. Kondo Ryu has succeeded in solving this problem with his original techniques through more than 30 years of study and practice.
8. Here, we try to shed light on this with photos taken by a multi-strobe camera.
9. The marvelous and utmost technique of Kondo Ryu's "puncturing a bottle" is explained here. How is it possible?
10. What's the purpose of using a bottle for practice? This can be answered as follows:
Even a fragile glass bottle could withstand shock less than its surface tension if a shuriken throw meets the requirement.
11. Puncturing a bottle requires the following elements
(1) Pinpoint accuracy
(2) A puncture in which the shuriken is perpendicular to the bottle
(3) Proper speed adjusted to the quality of the glass (hard or soft)
(4) Clarity and calmness of mind
It can be said that this marvelous work is a compilation of Kondo-Ryu shuriken art.
The original pictures on this DVD were not for an explanation of Kondo-Ryu Shuriken Art nor the dissemination of it. They were taken from time to time just for the Grand Master to check his own skills for himself. Now that Mr. Kondo has fallen ill, one of his students has tried to edit the record of this masterful techniques at his peak and pass them down.
