Other Activities

Pack 59 is a year-round pack. At the heart of Scouting are hands-on, interactive activities. In Cub Scouts, there are opportunities to spend time as a family and to do things that help build upon the Scout Oath and Scout Law. Pack 59 puts together special events and activities such as banquets, races, and community service projects.

Rocket Launch Event

Parents and youth work together to design, build, and launch their own rockets. Scout leaders also take the time to share information about Cub Scouting and take applications for membership.

Cub Fun Day

Cub Fun Day is open to all Cub Scouts, families and friends (boys & girls). The fun Activities include: archery, BB, fishing, pine wood car racing, rain gutter regatta, hayrides, scout games, demonstrations, gaga ball, special guests, food, and a field full of activities.

Paul Bunyan Day

Paul Bunyan Day is held at Historic Smithville Park and offers Scouts the opportunity to compete in a variety of fun events and activities such as Log Roll, Log Saw, Log Relay, Ox Chip Throw, and Nail Driving. Prizes are be awarded to the top scoring individuals of each Rank.

Scout Adventures and Advancement

Forensics is one of the many adventures Scouts will work on with their peers and at home. This adventure gives Scouts an opportunity to learn about law enforcement methods used to solve crimes. Scouts with take their fingerprints and learn how to analyze them, do an analysis of four different substances: salt, sugar, baking soda, and cornstarch and other fun activities to reinforce the lesson.

Pack Meetings

Held approximately once a month, September through June, pack meetings bring all dens together for the purposes of recognizing the achievements of the Cub Scouts, communicating information about upcoming events, and providing a program that enriches the Cub Scouting experience. Often themed, it helps the Cubs realize their den is part of a larger organization. Dens are invited to demonstrate their new skills or put on a song or skit in front of the pack.

Day & Resident Camps

Over the Summer, our Council district holds summer camp sessions for all Packs. These could be single days or over nights for a week for the older Scouts. Activities can include camping, swimming, archery, hiking, arts & crafts, and more. It is a great way to experience nature with Scouts from other groups.

Cub-o-Ree

The Cub-o-Ree is an exciting Cub Scout overnight camping opportunity. The Cub-o-Ree is a tent camping experience were scouts can take part in fun activities like BB Shooting, Archery, Outdoor Ethics and Gaga Ball

STEM

STEM—Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics is part of an initiative the Boy Scouts of America has taken on to encourage the natural curiosity of youth members and their sense of wonder about these fields through existing programs. From archery to welding, Scouts can’t help but enjoy the wide range of STEM-related activities. To support this initiative, the BSA developed the STEM Nova Awards program so that youth members have fun and receive recognition for their efforts.

Picnic and Hiking

The pack schedules several hiking events throughout the year at local parks and nature preserves. At the end of the year we combine a local park hike with an all-family end-of-year picnic.
