Since 2006 Niklas Rydén is deeply involved in New Opera CO and has found his home as an artist here.

But he wrote his first piece already 1982 together with librettist and co-composer Martin Nyström. They created a version of Orfeus and Eurydike meant as as a soundtrack for a Dance Theatre in collaboration with the dance group Rubicon. However, the piece was never performed, but was anyway the starting point for an interest in alternative music drama. The operas Vi i Villa and Uppvind have been performed at Atalante and won wide acclaim.
