Niklas Rydén is a composer and artistic director for New Opera CO. He has developed the notion of new opera and created the works Uppvind 2006 and Vi i Villa 2007.

He was also the artistic director at the venue Atalante in Göteborg, Sweden until 2023. At Atalante he has been a thriving force since the start 1987. Niklas Rydén has also made a large amount of music for dance performances at Atalante.

Niklas Rydén works with film and projections and has made important edge work with projections in stage performances, but also a number of films that has been showed for example at Gothenburg Film Festival.

1989–1997Niklas Rydén was the editor for the art magazine Atalante. He has also made written articles and made investigations in the field of cultural politics.

Niklas Rydén has also been an educator in the field of art. He was a teacher at the Valand Academy of Fine Arts in Gothenburg for seven years. His domain there was sound, video and fine arts and he started a master program in sound art there. He has also been involved in the growing outcome of education about project leading, management and economy in the field of art. He is a frequently debater and moderator at various venues and a board member in cultural educations and organizations.

Niklas Rydén worked 1976–1990 with Music Therapy and was one of the pioneers in this field in Sweden. He worked with pedagogic development in schools and with individual therapy. He also worked a lot with education of staff and made his first professional films, some documentaries for educational purpose, in this context. He also made a lot of children programs, and performances with dance, theatre and music.
