Glenelg Library Tutoring - Some Reminders & Guidelines!

Please remember to sign in with either Ms. C-S or Ms. Hocker on their personal NHS sign-up sheet for the day (in addition to the one they sign for NHS records) and sit at the designated green tables while tutoring!

And here are the times/availability info:

The posted hours for the library closing each normal day Tues - Fri is 3:00 PM. If you wish to plan on staying longer, please check with Ms. C-S or Ms. Hocker first to see if they are planning on staying any later.
(The library is closed every Monday after school for meetings, and one Friday a month for Book Club!)

*Additionally, some days, Ms. C-S and Ms. Hocker may need to limit the number of supervised tutoring sets to 6 sets or 12 people max (limited space some days), depending on their afterschool schedule of activities. In this case, a first-come, first-served rule will have to be honored!

Note: As our media center is a great place to tutor, we're counting on y'all to keep these things in mind so we can keep working with them to provide a good space for tutors and tutees!

Folly Quarter Tutoring

Folly Quarter Middle School is looking for NHS members to tutor after school every Tuesday and Wednesday at 2:35 pm. Please send nhsglenelg@gmail.com an email if you are interested in tutoring at FQMS.

This is a great way to earn your tutoring requirement hours! If you cannot make the full 3 hours, still coming for part of the time will help!

Help w/ the Glenelg Garden Squad! ( Counts toward chapter hours )

The "Garden Squad" is a fairly informal group of GHS staff, students, and alumni. Anyone is welcome to join during any particular gathering, and no gardening experience is required! The organization volunteers at the Freetown Farm in Columbia & locally at Sharp's Farm -- both farms donate a lot of food to local soup kitchens, food pantries, and other organizations that assist in providing fresh fruits and vegetables for those in need.

Now that spring and the main growing season are right around the corner, they hope to have 1-2 volunteer opportunities at either farm each month and into the summer. Usually these gatherings take place on Saturday's, but sometimes also on Sundays and weekdays if there is no school.

Some volunteers have turned their experiences into internships and part-time jobs, and it's also a great way for everyone involved to learn about growing your own food at home and taking care of the environment!

Anyone who is interested can just send Mr. Bohlayer their email address, or stop by room 203 for more information. They will usually to send out emails at least a week in advance of each volunteer opportunity.
