Is Santa from Canada or Finland?
When planning for our trip to the Finland Jamboree we heard this crazy story that Santa lived in northern Finland and not at the North Pole in Canada like we'd always heard. So we decided we needed to go there and find out the truth. There was just one problem - that was going to cost money!
Then we heard about something called the Grizzly Den. This Scouts Canada program sponsored by Hydro One was providing funding to Ontario Scout groups to go on amazing adventures. This sounded perfect so we put on our Santa hats, I mean thinking caps, and got to work.
We told the Grizzlies about this crazy story that Santa lived in Finland and why we wanted to go and find out the truth. We told them about our trip to the Finland Jamboree and how we wanted to take the overnight Santa Claus Express train to Lapland so we could see reindeer, hike above the Arctic Circle, pick berries, take a sauna, meet Finnish Scouts and most importantly meet Santa and discover the truth!
And the Grizzlies liked our idea and they gave us funding to make our adventure a reality!
So we went on our adventure...
We took the Santa Claus Express!
We slept on a train!
We went berry picking!
We crossed the Arctic Circle!
We met reindeer (real ones too)!
And ate them!
(we love reindeer pizza)
We went hiking!
And more hiking!
And even more hiking!
We climbed an observation tower!
And saw cool rock formations!
And went summer bobsledding!
We learned about Lapland!
And went go-karting!
And had a sauna!
We had a campfire with Finnish Scouts!
And learned to cook Finnish pancakes!
And made Finnish friends!
We met Moomin!
And Angry Birds!
And had so many other amazing adventures!
BUT WHAT ABOUT SANTA?
Well, we meet him. And we asked him if he was Finnish or Canadian. And we found out a secret.
He told us that the world is too big for one Santa to deliver toys to all the children of the world in one night. So there are two Santa's and they are twin brothers - one lives at the North Pole in Canada and one lives in Rovaniemi, Finland!
Mystery solved!
We want to thank Scouts Canada, Hydro One and the Grizzly Den for making this once in a lifetime adventure possible!
