PRESENT A FIVE-DAY EXCURSION TO

Ephesos, Priene, Miletos, Didyma

and Pergamon

on Friday 29th, Saturday 30th , Sunday 31st May, Monday 1st and Tuesday 2nd June 2020

Ionia, the central region of the western coast of modern-day Turkey was one of the cradles of

Greek culture in various periods, but most particularly in antiquity. Here Greeks came into

contact with the local cultures of Asia Minor, which led to fluorescence, particularly in the sixth

century BC. Later developments were built on these firm foundations. Today Ionia is best known

for its majestic ruins which primarily date to the Roman period, a time when the region was once

again one of the most prosperous in the Greek world. On this trip we shall marvel at the majestic

ruins of Ephesos, Priene, Miletos and Didyma. We shall also visit Pergamon, an amazing city

built on a hilly crag and its surroundings, which in the Hellenistic period was the centre of an

important kingdom that punched well above its weight. This is a truly eye-opening excursion,

which will allow us to enjoy the antiquities of the region as well as the beautiful countryside in

the full bloom of spring.
