Integrated MechanoBiosystems Lab（IMBSL）致力於建立可長期穩定運作、可被工程化控制的生物實驗系統，將細胞與組織在微環境中的行為轉換為可重複、可量測、可比較的實驗結果。我們關注的不只是單一實驗或特定技術，而是如何整合裝置、材料、細胞培養與量測流程，形成能持續演進的研究平台。

過去的研究中，本實驗室累積了微流體裝置設計、快速原型製作、三維細胞與組織模型、以及長時程影像量測與定量分析等基礎能力。這些工作橫跨工程與生物，但核心始終一致：讓實驗可以穩定地被執行，並且讓不同條件下的結果具有可比較性。

在目前與接下來的研究中，IMBSL 將重點放在 organ-on-chip 與 GelAtlas 平台的發展，整合水凝膠微結構、三維細胞／類器官培養，以及實驗流程的系統化設計。我們希望建立一個能支援長期培養、連續觀測，並可逐步導入自動化操作的實驗系統，而不只是單一功能的晶片或實驗方法。

研究切入點（Tracks）, 更新於2026.01.27

雖然本實驗室的研究主線一致，但學生可依背景與興趣，從不同切入點參與系統的建構與運作。

Track 1：Experimental Systems & Automation

此切入點著重於實驗裝置與系統層面的設計與實作，包含裝置結構、控制與自動化流程的建立，目標是讓實驗能夠長時間、穩定且可重複地運作。相關工作包括裝置與治具設計、自動化流程與控制邏輯、以及系統穩定性的測試與優化。

特別適合機械工程、電機工程、應用力學、自動化或相關工程背景的學生，不需要具備細胞或生物實驗經驗。

Track 2：Cell-Based Models & Organ-on-Chip Platforms

此切入點聚焦於三維細胞與組織模型在晶片系統中的培養與操作，包含 spheroid／organoid 模型、水凝膠材料與微結構設計，以及長時程培養與量測流程的建立。此方向與實驗裝置與自動化系統緊密結合，是 GelAtlas 與 organ-on-chip 平台發展的重要基礎。

跨背景整合

雖然學生可依背景從不同切入點進入實驗室，但所有研究最終都匯聚於同一套實驗平台與研究問題。IMBSL 強調工程與生物之間的合作與整合，而非分離的研究方向。有興趣的同學

ABOUT US

The Integrated MechanoBiosystems Lab (IMBSL) focuses on building engineered biological experimental systems that are stable, reproducible, and scalable. Rather than pursuing isolated experiments or single techniques, our research integrates device design, materials, cell-based models, and measurement workflows into experimental platforms that can operate reliably over time.

Over the past years, IMBSL has established strong foundations in microfluidic device design, rapid prototyping, three-dimensional cell and tissue models, and long-term imaging-based quantification. Across these efforts, our central goal has remained the same: to make experiments run stably and to ensure that results obtained under different conditions are comparable.

Our current and future research emphasizes the development of organ-on-chip platforms, particularly the GelAtlas system, which integrates hydrogel microstructures, 3D cell/organoid culture, and system-level experimental design. The aim is to create platforms that support long-term culture, continuous observation, and gradual integration of automated experimental execution.

Research Entry Points (Tracks), updated on 2026.01.27

While IMBSL follows a unified research direction, students may enter the lab from different entry points depending on their background and interests.

Track 1: Experimental Systems & Automation

This entry point focuses on the design and implementation of experimental devices and system-level automation. The goal is to ensure that experiments can operate reliably, repeatably, and over extended durations. Work in this track includes device and fixture design, control logic, automation workflows, and system stability testing.

This track is particularly suitable for students with backgrounds in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, applied mechanics, automation, or related fields, and does not require prior experience in cell or biological experiments.

Track 2: Cell-Based Models & Organ-on-Chip Platforms

This entry point focuses on three-dimensional cell and tissue models within chip-based systems, including spheroid/organoid culture, hydrogel materials and microstructures, and long-term culture and measurement workflows. This track forms a core component of the GelAtlas and organ-on-chip platform development.

Integration Across Backgrounds

Although students may enter the lab through different entry points, all research efforts ultimately converge on shared experimental platforms and research questions. IMBSL emphasizes integration and collaboration between engineering and biological perspectives rather than separated research directions.
