Race Day

The Derby will be held on Saturday March 18, 2019 at the Lilja Cafeteria. Tiger Derby registration starts at 11:30am, racing starts promptly at 12:15. Older Scout registration begins at 12:30pm with the races starting at 1:15. Cars must be registered 10 minutes prior to the race start time to be entered into the "Most Creative" competition. Final Call will be announced approximately 2 minutes prior to the race start, no cars will be accepted after Final Call. The earlier you register, the more time your Scout will have to make any necessary modifications to his car. Snacks, pizza, and drinks will be available courtesy of the Pack. This is a family event so bring the grandparents, uncles, cousins, and anyone else who might enjoy the race.

"Be Fast... or Look Good Trying"

The Pinewood Derby is one of the most popular and successful family activities in Cub Scouting. Pinewood Derby cars are small wooden models that Cub Scouts make with help from their families. Then they race the cars in competition. The cars are powered by gravity and run down a track. Every boy can design and build his own "grand prix" car to enter in the race. There are even awards for "Best Design" in each division voted on by all the other Scouts.

Race Day Highlights

There will be two divisions...

1) The Tiger Derby - Open to Tiger Cubs only, this is their first time after all. The top three fastest cars qualify for the District Pinewood Derby. And the "Most Creative" as determined by all other Scouts present at the start of the race will also be awarded a trophy.

2)The Cub Scout Derby - Open to all other Cub Scouts & WEBELOS. The top three fastest cars from the Wolves, Bears and the WEBELOS also qualify for the District Pinewood Derby. And there will be a "Most Creative" award for this division as well.

Prizes and Recognition

The Derby is about doing one's best and having fun, so all child participants will be recognized. But that doesn't mean our race leaders and best designers won't take home some shiny hardware.

This is the time to try out any trick you can think of to make a car go as fast as possible. The only rules are it must only be powered by gravity and it must fit on the track. Siblings, friends, parents and others are invited to participate and there will be separate divisions for adults and children. The Outlaw Race will begin at 2:00.
