2014 Meet of Champions

***** Girls Discus has new State Record - Sarah Hillman of Polytech throws 147' 4", to best the previous record by nearly three feet!! Tylar Duncan, of William Penn, throws #4 All Time at 139' 1"!

For the boys, Nick Robinson (Tatnall) - 161' 6" - narrowly wins the championship event with 5 boys throwing over 150 feet (2 of them topping 160 feet). Elijah Agwu of AI duPont was second (160' 11") and Keith Stubbs (Newark) took third (159' 9").

DIAA State Championship Meet

Tatnall Sweeps Boys' and Girls' DII Titles/Caesar Rodney and Padua Claim DI Boys' and Girls' Crowns!

Team Highlights:

Tatnall boys cruise to the DII title, led by 5 event winners: Terran Mardis, Triple Jump, 43-11.50; Jack Hagood, 800m, 1:54.97; Ben Boswell, 1600m 4:25.62, Stephen Garrett, 3200m, 9:54.31, and the 4 X 800m relay (Pat Lynch, Henry Paul, Boswell, and Hagood,8:18.47).

Tatnall girls edge Hodgson Vo-Tech by a mere 8 points - without a single individual win - instead taking first in two relays (4 X 800m - Liz Schreiber, Caroline Foley, Quinn Teklits, and Jill Reinhardt - 9:59.78, and 4 X 400m - Kendra Riley, Kayla Woods, SavannahPankow, and Reinhardt - 4:16.49).

Caesar Rodney boys win by 10 over runner-up, Dover, with just 2 individual wins (Oluwaseun Osunkoya, Triple Jump, 42-10.50, and Austinio Brown, 100m, 10.84). Other titles came from two relays, the 4 X 100m - Daylakashawn McDonald, Arthur Miles, Naquan Watkins, Austinio Brown (43.14), and the 4 X 800m - Brandon Brooks, Kevin Taylor, Bryce Stevenosky, and Sam Phillips (8:05.98).

Padua scores a record-breaking 192 points, to easily win the title, also winning 5 events: Maiya Dendy, 100m, 11.81; Erin Spadaccini, 1600m, 5:09.29, Taliah Cintron, 300mH, 45.16, 4 X 400m relay (Dendy, Cintron, Leanne Harkins, Haley Lucey, 4:02.65) and the 4 X 800m relay (Emily Paolucci, Jacki D'Amico, Erin Spadaccini, and Angie Spadaccini, 9:40.03).

Other Highlights:

Middletown's Ashley Bailey set a new State Meet Record in the Pole Vault - 12-02.00.

Padua's Ashley Muschiatti set a Division I Record in the Shot Put - 43-00.00.

Division I's Tyra Reid (Caesar Rodney) and Zach Schmelz (St. Mark's) won both the 200m and 400m, Reid in 24.32/56.91 and Schmelz in 21.92/49.21.

Isis Pinkney, of Mt. Pleasant, swept the DII 100m/200m (11.99/24.87); a stumble prevented her from a victory in the 100mH, taking 3rd instead.

The Selby twins, from St. Georges, went 1-2 in the DII 100m/200m, but reversing the order in each event - Taronn won the 100m in 10.73, while Keyjuan took the 200m in 21.62. They also shared wins with teammates Zack Bowe and Austyn Warren in the 4 X 100m (42.52) and the 4 X 200m (1:29.49).

Kieran Tuntivate (Charter) was a DI double winner - 1600m, 4:22.02 and 3200m, 9:39.63 - while earning a trip to the podium in the 800m for 3rd.

Mykele Young-Sanders (Dover) was also a double winner, taking both DI hurdle events (110mH, 14.36/300mH, 38.55), while getting 2nd in the 200m.

St. Mark's won two DI relay titles - the 4 X 200m (Mike Catalana, Zach Schmelz, Karl Green and TJ Brown, 1:29.89) and the 4 X 400m (Brown, Green, Devin Deturk, Schmelz, 3:26.62).

Girls' Highlights:

Middletown's Ashley Bailey Improves Pending State Record - 12-02.25 in the Pole Vault!

Taliah Cintron (Padua), earns #6 All Time in the 300mH, improving her previous best to 43.63.

Delcastle's 4 X 200m (Morgyn Bennett, Khalleese Woolbright, Siani Sellers, Royce Aiken) runs #4 All Time, 1:40.49.

Isis Pinkney from Mt. Pleasant and Johnasia Lewis, Delcastle, finish 1/2 in the 100mH and lead the state in the event 14.95/14.97.

Colleen Carney, Archmere, cracks 5:10 in the 1600m, running 5:09.57, to earn the top spot in the Honor Roll.

Boys' Highlights:

Zach Schmelz (St. Mark's) is a triple winner - 400m, 48.12; 200m, 22.03; and 4 X 400m (withTJ Brown, Karl Green and Devin Deturk), 3:24.72.

Seven boys run sub-2:00 in the 800m, led by Jarod Wilson of Newark in 1:54.63 (#3 All Time). Jack Hagood and Ben Boswell, both from Tatnall, take 2nd and 3rd places (1:55.34/1:56.82).

Five go under 4:20 in the 1600m. Kieran Tuntivate out-kicked the field running 4:14.62, #6 All Time. Ben Boswell (Tatnall) out leaned Eamon McCoy (Brandywine) placing 2nd and 3rd (4:17.04 and 4:17.05 for #9 and #10 All Time).

St. Georges' Zack Bowe, Keyjuan Selby, Taronn Selby, and Austyn Warren win both sprint relays.

Four Under 60 in the 400m: Taliah Cintron (Padua), 57.30; Khalleese Woolbright(Delcastle), 57.43, Aireyona Mason (Howard), 58.07, and Daija Lampkin (Middletown), 59.77.

Rachel Beston of Newark moves to Honor Roll #2 in the 3200m with a time of 11:31.05.

Boys' Highlights:

Four Under 1:59 in the 800m: Jack Hagood (Tatnall), 1:54.74; Eamon McCoy(Brandywine), 1:57.58; Zach Schmelz (St. Mark's), 1:58.26; and Kobe Baker (Wm Penn) 1:58.96.

Appoquinimink's Larry Perez breaks 50 in the 400m - 49.42.

Jared Lewis (Salesianum) moves to #2 Honor Roll with a throw of 51-00 in the Shot.

Local Athletes Shine at Elite Meet in West Chester

Six Delaware boys competed in the premier race of the night - 2 Mile - all now sitting high on the State All Time List for both the 2 Mile and the 3200m, en route.

Charter's Kieran Tuntivate led all Delaware runners placing 6th in the elite race in 9:13.80/9:11.00 for 2 mile/3200m (#2 All Time). Stephen Garrett (Tatnall) placed 7th (9:14.54/9:11.46, #3 All Time), less than a second behind Tuntivate. Also in the race wereBen Boswell (Tatnall, 9:25.59/9:22.54, #6 AT), Thomas Connelly (Wm. Friends, 9:30.29/9:26.90, #8 AT), Pat Hally (Salesianum, 9:31.62/9:28.10, #10 AT) and Eamon McCoy (Brandywine, 9:32.10/9:28.68, #11 AT).

Charter's Kevin Murray, easily won the 3200m running 9:32.56.

Milford's Ryan Thomas was a double winner in the Long (22-02.50) and Triple (48-02.50).

Zach Schmelz, from St. Mark's, took the 400m title in 48.23 (#10 All Time). He was also runner-up in the 200m (22.26).

The boys from Concord had strong finishes in the field - Garth Warner, 2nd in the High Jump (6-06.00) and Terrance Lancaster-Webb, runner-up in the Triple Jump (42-07.75).

Salesianum's Jared Lewis placed 2nd in the Shot Put - 46-09.50.

Maiya Dendy (Padua) won the 100m in a season-best time of 11.98. She was also the top qualifier in the 200m (24.58) but did not run in the final.

Taliah Cintron (Padua) just missed a title in the 300mH, finishing 2nd in 44.34 (#11 AT).

Padua's Erin Spadaccini had a strong finish in the 1600m, placing 8th with a time of 5:09.58.

Girls' Highlights:

Ashley Muschiatti (Padua) throws 43' 7.25" to place 4th in the Shot Put, earning #4 Delaware All Time.

The girls from Delcastle (Khaleese Woolbright, Sherita Lowman, Morgan Bennett, Royce Aiken) grab a spot in the Tri-State Final of the 4 x 100 with a time of 48.91 (#12 All Time). In the final, the Delcastle girls finish 5th in a time of 48.33.

Padua Girls (Angie Spadaccini - 1:03.49, Taliah Cintron - 58.91, Christina Allen - 59.71, Maiya Dendy - 58.63) take the Northern Delaware Section of the 4 x 400 running 4:00.73, qualifying for the Philadelphia Area Championship. In the Championship race, Padua finished 3rd with a time of 3:54.72 (Christina Allen 1:01.79, Taliah Cintron - 55.70, Angie Spadaccini - 1:01.83, Maiya Dendy - 55.62)

Boys' Highlights:

Howard Boys (Emanuel Hitch - 50.41, Na'Quan Evans - 52.24, Yimika Ajao - 53.82, Domingo Johnson - 50.65) take the Northern Delaware Section of the 4x400 running 3:27.10, qualifying for the Philadelphia Area 4x400 Championship, where they finished 12th.

St. Georges (Zack Bowe, Austyn Warren, Keyjuan Selby, Taronn Selby) qualified for the Small Schools Championship race with a time of 42.73. In the Championship race, they finished 5th with a time of 42.83.

Stephen Garrett (Tatnall) places 8th in the 3000m with a DE #1 All-time performance of 8:27.10.

Ryan Thomas (Milford) places 6th in the Triple Jump, with a performance of 47'-10.75".

Three-Way Tie at AI - Boys from Tatnall, Mt. Pleasant, and William Penn Locked at 58 Points Each

The three teams score with varying strength: Mount scores 3 places in the Shot and Discus, while winning the 110mH (Anthony Mitchell - 16.14), Tatnall benefits from Ben Boswell'sdouble win in the 800/3200 (2:00.83/10:00.25), and William Penn shows strength in the relays (1st in 4 x 400m, 2nd in 4 x 800m, and 3rd in the sprint relays).

Smyrna Girls Take the Title Winning Just One Event

Raven Luckett's win in the High Jump (5-00.00) is supported by a strong showing from her teammates in the relay events, 800m (Navarro, 3rd/Vickers, 4th) and hurdles (Morris3rd/2nd in 100mh and 300mh).

Mt. Pleasant's Isis Pinkney is a double winner in the 100m/200m (12.76/26.72) and is edged by Sussex Tech's Briana Hall in the 100mh (15.13/16.09).

Hall also won the Triple Jump in 34-11.00.

Padua's Ashley Muschiatti moves to #4 All Time, winning the Shot Put in 42-06.00.
