Haley Pierce 4:41.19 #2 time in the nation. New state record by 7 seconds!!!
Frydrych, Olivere, and Anderson join Pierce to form the fastest 1600 in state history. After Pierce's blistering 4:41, Emily Frydrych followed with an impressive perforance of her own, running 4:53.47 (DE #5 all-time, US #16). Olivere also put up a wicked time, running 4:56.33 for 9th all-time (US #40). Anderson, who already holds the 3rd fastest time in state history, ran 5:03.22 for 4th overall.
Tatnall's 4x800 team of Haley Pierce, Lindsey Voltz, Reagan Anderson, and Julie Williams ran the #3 time in state history, and hold the #6 time in the US. St. Mark's finished 2nd in 9:30, #25 all-time.
The 800M was also a fast race, with 3 girls in the race setting school records. Anderson-Tatnall- 2:14.13. Fryrych-St. Mark's-2:14.41 (#8 all-time,SR) Meredith Steenkamer -Charter- 2:15.86 (#22 all-time SR). Maeve McCoy-Brandywine- 2:17.32 (#39 all-time, SR).
Myra Wannamaker (Howard) won the 400M in 56.70, running #19 all-time.
St. Mark's Katrina Steenkamer took first overall in the 3200M in 10:56.97, running the 8th fastest time in state history. Charter's Amanda Rickert followed with an 11:00.35, for 10th all-time!
Charter's Katie Dixon took first place in the pole vault, clearing 9'6". That is the #10 height in state history!!
In boys' action, Tatnall's Tyler Tate ran 1:54.13 in the 800. That moves him up to 8th all-time in DE.
Archmere's JR Creekmore took first overall in the 1600, running the #23 time in DE history in 4:20.78. In that race, Appo's Josh Hayman put up a solid double finishing 2nd in both the 1600 in 4:21.26 (#29 in DE) and 1:56.85 for 800M. Brandywine's Monte Scott won the 300M hurdles in 38.82 (#20 all-time in DE).

Middletown Senior Marquis Dendy won the Triple Jump Championships on Saturday for the second year in a row at the Penn Relays, jumping an outstanding 50-8 1/4. He is currently #2 in the nation in the triple jump according to Dyestat.comHaley Pierce runs away from the #1 runner in America in HUGE 3000M Win!! 9:16.35. #2 all-time at Penn Relays. #8 all-time in US History!!
Haley Pierce ran away from Aisling Cuffe (the #1 runner in the country) Thursday night at the Penn Relays. With 600 to go Pierced dropped a blistering 1:41 to shock the United States. Cuffe was previously undefeated, going back to cross country where she was the National Champion. Pierce is now the #1 runner in the US. She ran the #2 time in Penn Relay history, the #8 time in US history, and obviously shattered her existing state record by 20 seconds!!

Christina Hillman wins the Shot Put, breaks state record!!!
St. Thomas Moore's Christina Hillman rose to the occasion again, winning the girls' shot put in 48' 8" on Thursday, breaking the state record set by Brianna Kennedy by almost 4 FEET!!! Hillman was the indoor national champion in this event, and is currently the #2 shot putter in the US!!Anderson and Frydrych: 4th and 6th in the mile. Olivere 7th in the 3000MReagan Anderson from Tatnall ran a personal best 4:52.13 to finish 4th overall in the Championship Mile on Thursday evening. Emily Fryrych from St. Mark's also broke 5:00 for the first time, finishing 6th overall in 4:57.42. Those are currently the #3 and #8 times in Delaware history!! Lindsay Olivere also shined brilliantly in the 3000, running a gutsy race to come in 7th overall. Her 9:48.4 converts to a 10:31, and is the #3 time in state history.Boys’ Mile- Tyler Tate finished 11th in the 1 mile, running 4:22.65.400M Hurdles - Diamere Nabinett runs 4th fastest 400M hurdle in state history. 55.30 for 11th.Taylor (St. Mark's) runs 58.36.Chris Williams (William Penn) jumps 45-7.75 in triple jump. Caravel Invitational: Pierce Crushed 1600 Record with 4:48!!
Haley Pierce put on a show in the 1600M, running an American leading 4:48.84 1600 on Saturday at the Caravel Invitational. Pierce came through 1200M in 3:43, then split a 65 second last lap!! That breaks the 1600M state record set by 2009 teammate Juliet Bottorff. Also in the race and cracking 5:00 was Archmere's Lindsay Oliviere. Her 4:57.60 is #10 all-time!
Arcadia Invitational, Arcadia, CA: Dendy Wins Long Jump, 2nd in Triple
Marquis Dendy is ranked #3 in the US in the long jump after his monster jump of 24' 9 3/4" on Saturday at the Arcadia Invitational in California. His jump clears the existing record of 24' 5 1/4 set in 1997 by Cape Henlopen's Kai Maull. Dendy also jumped 48'7" for 2nd in the triple jump.

Delaware Sports Club lost one of its finest members, as John "Jack" McVey passed away earlier this week. For decades Jack has been helping give back to the high school community by volunteering as an official at the finish line at many of the track and field meets. 2011 Outdoor State Meet Update
The DIAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be held on Friday, May 20 and Saturday, May 21st. Due to conflicts with Appoquinimink graduations we have moved the start time on Saturday from 11:00am to 9:00am. The meet should conclude no later than 3:30. More details later.
The DIAA Track & Field Meet of Champions will be held on Wednesday, May 25th . It was listed on our wall and pocket calendars as Tuesday, May 24th. That is an error.

Dendy Jumps 25-9 1/2, #1 High Schooler in USA by over 1 FOOT!!! #8 in the ENTIRE NATION!!
Middletown standout Marquis Dendy competed unattached and won the long jump in 25-9 1/2 at the Mid-Atlantic Track and Field Indoor Classic on Saturday in Landover, MD. Dendy's jump will not count as a state record, but it clears his own personal best by 1 foot and the current state record by 1 foot, 7 inches He is the #1 high school long jumper by over 1 foot (according to Dyestat.com), and #8 in the USA according to USATF.org. He will be ranked #59 in the world when IAAF updates it's records this week. Dendy is ready to go after Keith Holley's American High School record of 52-7 1/2 set back in 1988. Dendy jumped 52-1 at the DIAA state meet two weeks ago.
Glasgow's Leshon Collins was a double winner on Sunday at the Mid-Atlantic Track Classic, taking both the 55M (6.s44) and the 200M (22.27) . His 200M time is a new meet record. St. Mark's Emily Frydrych was also a double winner in both the 800M (2:21.02) and the 1 mile (5:20.10). Brandywine's Maeve McCoy took 3rd in the 800M in 2:22.77.
