Η Φλέρυ Νταντωνάκη (πραγματικό όνομα Ελευθερία Παπαδαντωνάκη, 1937-1998) ήταν Ελληνίδα τραγουδίστρια, γνωστή για τη συνεργασία της με τον Μάνο Χατζιδάκι και την ερμηνεία της στο δίσκο του Ο Μεγάλος Ερωτικός.

Γεννήθηκε το 1937 στην Αθήνα (κατ' άλλους στην Κρήτη) και από μικρή καταπιάστηκε με τις τέχνες και κυρίως με την υποκριτική, γεγονός που πιθανότατα οφείλεται στο ότι ο πατέρας της ήταν σκηνοθέτης, ηθοποιός και κινηματογραφικός παραγωγός. Με την ενηλικίωσή της πηγαίνει στις ΗΠΑ, όπου σπουδάζει Ιστορία και Φιλολογία και σύντομα ξεκινά μια καριέρα ηθοποιού, συμμετέχοντας σε παραστάσεις στη Νέα Υόρκη. Ο ρόλος της ως τραγουδίστρια γεννιέται μέσα από τυχαίες ευκαιρίες, στις οποίες τραγουδά δημοτικά τραγούδια για τους φίλους της. Σταδιακά ο ρόλος αυτός κυριαρχεί και αρχίζει να εμφανίζεται σε μουσικές σκηνές, με ένα ευρύ ρεπερτόριο που περιλαμβάνει λαϊκή μουσικής της Ελλάδας, της Ισπανίας, αλλά ακόμη και της Βραζιλίας. Το 1965 εμφανίζεται ο πρώτος της δίσκος με τίτλο «Fleury: The isles of Greece», που περιλαμβάνει ένα ετερόκλητο ρεπερτόριο, από λαϊκά άσματα του Απόστολου Καλδάρα, βραζιλιάνικες bossa nova και τρία κομμάτια του Μίκη Θεοδωράκη.

Δύο χρόνια πριν την οριστική πτώση της Χούντας, ο Μάνος Χατζιδάκις και η "Μούσα" του επιστρέφουν στην Ελλάδα. Το 1972 αποτελεί έτος-σταθμό στην καριέρα της Φλέρυς, με πιο σημαντικό γεγονός την έκδοση του δίσκου «Ο Μεγάλος Ερωτικός»· στην παραγωγή συμμετέχει και ο Δημήτρης Ψαριανός, που περιλαμβάνει μελοποιήσεις αρχαίας και νέας ελληνικής ποίησης με θέμα τον έρωτα. Στα τέλη του ιδίου χρόνου η Φλέρυ ηχογραφεί και πάλι, αυτή τη φορά τον «Καπετάν - Μιχάλη» του Χατζιδάκι, ενώ συμμετέχει και στον δίσκο «Δώδεκα τραγούδια του Γιώργου Ποταμιάνου», ενός Έλληνα εφοπλιστή, με τον οποίο τη συνέδεε μεγάλη φιλία από τον καιρό που ήταν στις ΗΠΑ.

" Ρεσιτάλ επιβίωσης Ο Γιώργος Μονεμβασίτης αποκαλύπτει το παρασκήνιο των ραδιοφωνικών ηχογραφήσεων της Φλέρυς Νταντωνάκη Το CD "Φλέρυ Νταντωνάκη - Η αιώνια εφηβεία της φωνής" κυκλοφόρησε πριν από μερικές ημέρες κι έχει ήδη γίνει ανάρπαστο. Τα 5.000 αντίτυπα που τυπώθηκαν έχουν σχεδόν εξαντληθεί κι η ΕΡΤ, η οποία έχει συμπεριλάβει την έκδοση στο πλαίσιο της σειράς "Αρχείο Ραδιοφώνου", αναμένεται να προχωρήσει άμεσα σε ανατύπωση. Σε αυτές τις ηχογραφήσεις η Φλέρυ Νταντωνάκη ξεδιπλώνει τον άνεμο της ανάσας αλλά και του ψυχισμού της, το εύθραυστο της έκφρασης αλλά και της προσωπικότητάς της, το ιστορικό βάθος μιας φωνής μέσα από την ερμηνεία 20 αγγλόφωνων και τεσσάρων ελληνικών τραγουδιών που ηχογραφήθηκαν στους ραδιοθαλάμους του Τρίτου Προγράμματος της ΕΡΑ το 1980. Ο κριτικός μουσικής Γιώργος Μονεμβασίτης, ο οποίος συνέλεξε το υλικό κι επιμελήθηκε την έκδοση, μιλάει στο "Βήμα" κι αποκαλύπτει (για πρώτη φορά) το παρασκήνιο μιας ηχογράφησης η οποία αναδεικνύει το διαχρονικό χαρακτήρα της 20 χρόνια μετά την πραγματοποίησή της. Η ανακάλυψη του "θησαυρού" "Το 1980 η Φλέρυ Νταντωνάκη ηχογράφησε στο Στούντιο C της ελληνικής ραδιοφωνίας τρία ρεσιτάλ. Το ένα από αυτά (με ελληνικά τραγούδια του Μάνου Χατζιδάκι, συνοδεία του Βαγγέλη Μπουντούνη στην κιθάρα) έχει χαθεί εξ ολοκλήρου. Δεν υπάρχει ούτε ιδιωτική ηχογράφησή του από συλλέκτη" αφηγείται ο Γ. Μονεμβασίτης. Τα υπόλοιπα δύο ρεσιτάλ διεσώθησαν. Το πρώτο (περιλαμβάνει οκτώ αγγλόφωνες μπαλάντες των Μπιτλς, του Μπομπ Ντίλαν, του Λέοναρντ Κοέν κ.ά.) μεταδόθηκε το μεσημέρι της Κυριακής 10 Φεβρουαρίου 1980. Η ταινία διασώθηκε, τοποθετήθηκε στη ράχη της μία ετικέτα με τίτλο "8 τραγούδια με τη Φλέρυ Νταντωνάκη" και ξεχάστηκε κάπου μέσα στις 120.000 ταινίες του Αρχείου της ΕΡΤ. "Την περίοδο που ήμουν διευθυντής του Δευτέρου Προγράμματος επισκεπτόμουν συχνά το Αρχείο κι έψαχνα ανάμεσα στις χιλιάδες ταινίες να ανακαλύψω τους μουσικούς θησαυρούς. Ανέσυρα ηχογραφήματα και τα μετέδιδα σε εκπομπή μου που είχε τον τίτλο "Αρχείο Ραδιοφώνου" θυμάται ο Γ. Μονεμβασίτης. Σε μία από αυτές τις "εξορμήσεις" του στο Αρχείο της ΕΡΤ ανακάλυψε και το δεύτερο ρεσιτάλ που περιλαμβάνεται στην έκδοση "Η αιώνια εφηβεία της φωνής": " Ήμουν γονατιστός σε μια γωνία της ταινιοθήκης αναζητώντας κάτι άλλο. Ξαφνικά είδα δύο παραπεταμένες ταινίες που έγραφαν επάνω "Φλέρυ Νταντωνάκη - Πολ Μάνσφιλντ: Ρεσιτάλ για μοντάζ" " τονίζει ο ερευνητής. Πρόκειται για ένα ρεσιτάλ το οποίο δεν μεταδόθηκε ποτέ. "Για την ακρίβεια δεν ηχογραφήθηκε με τον σκοπό να μεταδοθεί" τονίζει ο Γ. Μονεμβασίτης κι αποκαλύπτει: "Στις αρχές του 1980 η Φλέρυ Νταντωνάκη είχε ανάγκη από χρήματα. Ο Μάνος Χατζιδάκις, ο οποίος διηύθυνε τότε το Τρίτο Πρόγραμμα, της είπε να ηχογραφήσει κάποια τραγούδια μόνο και μόνο για να βρει έναν τρόπο να της καλύψει κάποιο ποσό. Ήταν ένα "πρόσχημα" για να της δώσει ο Χατζιδάκις κάποια χρήματα". Αυτοσχεδιάζοντας στο στούντιο Έτσι η Φλέρυ Νταντωνάκη πήρε τον Πολ Μάνσφιλντ, έναν φολκ -"χίπι" κιθαρίστα εκείνης της εποχής, και χωρίς να έχουν κάνει καμία πρόβα βρέθηκαν στο Στούντιο C του Τρίτου Προγράμματος να ψάχνουν τραγούδια και να αυτοσχεδιάζουν επί έξι ώρες. Έτσι προέκυψαν οι μαγικές ερμηνείες της τραγουδίστριας στο παραδοσιακό "AmazingGrace", σε τραγούδια του Γκέρσουιν, του Μαντσίνι, του Λένον αλλά και στο "Θα 'ρθει άσπρη μέρα και για μας" του Σταύρου Ξαρχάκου και του Νίκου Γκάτσου. Από το ίδιο το καλλιτεχνικό αποτέλεσμα της ηχογράφησης προκύπτει το πώς μια τυπική ηχογράφηση για...βιοποριστικούς λόγους εξελίχθηκε σε σημαντική στιγμή για την ελληνική δισκογραφία, σε μια περίοδο μάλιστα κατά την οποία η Φλέρυ Νταντωνάκη είχε ήδη αρχίσει να απομονώνεται. Δεν έβλεπε κόσμο, δεν ήταν κοινωνική, δεν θα επεδίωκε η ίδια να ηχογραφήσει ξανά τραγούδια αν δεν της γινόταν πρόταση από το Μάνο Χατζιδάκι. Ν. Μωραΐτης ". Αφιερωμένο στην Βίκυ που το ζήταγε και δεν τό'βρισκε!

To 1980 η Φλέρυ Νταντωνάκη ξεκινά μετά από επίμονες προσπάθειες του Μάνου Χατζιδάκι δύο κύκλους ηχογραφήσεων στο Τρίτο Πρόγραμμα.Ενώ βρίσκεται ήδη σε περίοδο παραίτησης της απ'όλα,ηχογραφήσεις,συνεργασίες,φιλικους δεσμούς,καταφέρνει να ολοκληρώσει και τους δύο κύκλους.Ο πρώτος περιείχε αποκλειστικά τραγούδια του Μάνου,ο οποίος και χάθηκε στα αχανή και παρατημένα αρχεία του Τρίτου,ενώ ο δεύτερος αποτελείτο απο αγγλόφωνο ρεπερτόριο( Μπομπ Ντύλαν,Λέοναρντ Κοέν,Τζορτζ Γκέρσουιν ) και τέσσερα ελληνικά τραγούδια στο τέλος.Κυκλοφόρησε το 2000 απο την ΕΡΑ με τίτλο "Η αιώνια εφηβεία της φωνής".

Η νουβέλα «Πόργκι» του Ντιμπόζ Χέιγουορντ, που περιγράφει την ιστορία ενός ανάπηρου μαύρου πάμφτωχου επαίτη ωρίμασε την ιδέα του «Πόργκι και Μπες» το 1933. Έτσι ξεπήδησε από εκεί η υπέροχη μελωδία του «Summertime», που έχει από τότε καταγραφεί σε τουλάχιστον 2.500 εκτελέσεις και σήμερα αποτελεί κομμάτι ρεπερτορίου ακόμα για τους κλασικούς ερμηνευτές.

Το τραγούδι είχε εξαιρετική επιτυχία και ηχογραφήθηκε πολλές φορές από διαφορετικούς καλλιτέχνες. Περιγράφηκε ως "[...] ένα από τα καλύτερα τραγούδια που έγραψε ποτέ συνθέτης [...]". Ο συνθέτης και στιχουργός Στήβεν Σόντχαϊμ (Stephen Sondheim) χαρακτήρισε τους στίχους του Χέιγουορντ για το "Summertime" και το "My Man's Gone Now" ως "τους καλύτερους στίχους του μουσικού θεάτρου". Το τραγούδι αναγνωρίζεται ως ένα από τα πλέον τραγουδισμένα τραγούδια στην ιστορία της ηχογραφημένης μουσικής[5]. Μεταξύ των ερμηνευτών του συγκαταλέγεται η Μαρία Κάλλας, η Τζάνις Τζόπλιν, η Έλλα Φιτζέραλντ, η Μαχάλια Τζάκσον η Φλέρυ Νταντωνάκη και άλλοι.

Ο Τζορτζ Γκέρσουιν (George Gershwin [Jacob Gershvin), Νέα Υόρκη, 26 Σεπτεμβρίου 1898— Χόλιγουντ, 11 Ιουλίου 1937) ήταν Αμερικανός συνθέτης, τραγουδοποιός και πιανίστας, δημιουργός πολλών έργων για το μουσικό θέατρο και τον κινηματογράφο και με σημαντική συμβολή στη διαμόρφωση της τζαζ στις ΗΠΑ κατά τη δεκαετία του 1920. Στις σημαντικότερες συνθέσεις του ανήκουν το κλασικό έργο για ορχήστρα και πιάνο Rhapsody in Blue και η λαϊκή όπερα Porgy and Bess, η πρώτη αμερικανική όπερα που εκτελέστηκε στη Σκάλα του Μιλάνου. Συγκαταλέγεται στους δημοφιλέστερους και πιο επιτυχημένους Αμερικανούς συνθέτες όλων των εποχών, που συνδύασε τις τεχνικές και τις φόρμες του κλασικού τραγουδιού με το είδος της τζαζ, ενώ παράλληλα το ύφος του σημαδεύτηκε από πρωτότυπες μετατροπίες και περίπλοκους ρυθμούς. Κύριος συνεργάτης του και στιχουργός πολλών συνθέσεών του υπήρξε ο αδελφός του, Άιρα Γκέρσουιν.

Γόνος Ρώσων μεταναστών, εβραϊκής καταγωγής, που εγκαταστάθηκαν στην Αμερική τη δεκαετία του 1890, ο Γκέρσουιν πέθανε πρόωρα σε ηλικία 38 ετών από όγκο του εγκεφάλου, κληροδοτώντας πολλά τραγούδια που ανήκουν πλέον στο κλασικό τζαζ ρεπερτόριο, ηχογραφημένα σε πολυάριθμες εκτελέσεις και από τους σημαντικότερους εκπροσώπους του είδους. Μετά το θάνατό του, οι ορχηστρικές συνθέσεις του επανεκτελέστηκαν περισσότερες φορές από τα έργα οποιουδήποτε Αμερικανού συνθέτη

Ο Γκέρσουιν, που ονειρευόταν να αξιοποιήσει τη μαύρη κουλτούρα και να την ομογενοποιήσει συνδυάζοντας τη με το μπλουζ και τη συμφωνική αισθητική και ενοργάνωση, δεν είχε αποφασίσει πάντως να κλειστεί στα συμφωνικά περιθώρια, αλλά έπαιζε και έγραφε για το Μπρόντγουεη με την ίδια άνεση και χαρά. Πίστευε ακράδαντα στην ενιαία αυτοτελή δύναμη της μουσικής και επιχειρούσε να το αποδείξει..
