Welcome to my Manuscript Activities page, a glimpse into my literary endeavours, a Kurdish cinematographer and storyteller. My ability to translate visual experiences into compelling narratives extends beyond the lens and finds expression in the written word.
1. Echoes of Liberation
Embark on a journey through my poignant script, Echoes of Liberation. This manuscript delves into the aftermath of the Iraqi Operation Freedom in 2003, capturing the reverberations of resilience, loss, and hope. The narrative weaves together the stories of individuals on the front lines, providing an intimate glimpse into the human experience during this pivotal moment in history.
2. Land of Tales
In Land of Tales, I explore the cultural tapestry of Kurdistan through the lens of storytelling. This manuscript intertwines folklore, traditions, and personal anecdotes, offering a rich narrative that goes beyond the visual, connecting audiences to the heart of Kurdistan's heritage, Vernacular Architecture and environmental issues.
3. Silent Witnesses
A gripping tale unfolds in Silent Witnesses, a manuscript inspired by my documentation of front line stories. The script captures the silent witnesses - the landscapes scarred by conflict and the untold stories etched into the very fabric of the region. It is a reflection on the resilience of both the land and its people.
One of these stories is in the Manuscript for the film Surya’s Cry. The narrative unfolds against the backdrop of a tragic incident that befell the multiethnic village of Surya on September 16, 1969. Nestled in the Bahdinan region within the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, west of the Batil district along the Tigris River, this village was home to a diverse community of Cheldanian/Assyrians and Kurds, encompassing both Christians and Muslims across 38 households.
The morning of September 16, 1969, marked a devastating turn of events when a military convoy from the Second Company in the Third Regiment, part of the Fourth Iraqi Baath Army, launched an attack on the village. Gathering the villagers—women, elders, children, and men—in one of the village farms, they perpetrated a brutal massacre against defenceless peasants. The carnage commenced with the village priest and the village mayor, extending to women and children, and concluding with the men. The entire village was set ablaze. The toll of this horrific massacre stood at 37 lives lost, with 23 wounded survivors. The traumatised villagers, with assistance from neighbouring communities, were compelled to bury their loved ones in two mass graves—one for the Christian victims and the other for the Muslim.
