This music video, crafted in 2013, is a love letter to both the land and its language. Immerse yourself in the breathtaking beauty of Shar Bajhér and the ancient city of Koya, captured in just four weeks of filming.
And watch out for a special cameo… my timeless Russian Jeep, a rugged icon turned local landmark, ready to rumble along to the rhythm of Reza's voice.
Get ready to feel the sun on your skin, the wind in your hair, and the unmistakable power of Kelhurrí lyrics pierce your heart. This is more than a music video; it's a celebration of Kurdish spirit, sung loud and clear.
"Dillí Birdim" isn't your typical music video. It's a visual homage to Kurdish musical heritage, woven into the very fabric of Koya, an ancient city in South Kurdistan. The song itself, by the legendary Bawají Assembly, dates back to 1959, born from a shared passion for preserving cultural treasures. Koya, steeped in rich history, nurtured the likes of Melay Gewre, Dilldar, and Masud Mohammad – literary giants whose footprints echoed through time.
My vision for "Dillí Birdim" was to bring these threads together – the timeless music, the spirit of Koya, and the legacy of its iconic figures. Melay Gewre's house courtyard, with its evocative light and vibrant colours, became the perfect canvas. Here, the ancient and modern seamlessly merged, as the Bawají Assembly's mastery breathed life into native values.
This music video was more than entertainment; it was a spark. It's broadcast across various channels resonated deeply, prompting the city authorities to invest in a project that had long awaited – the restoration of Melay Gewre's house. Now, this historic landmark stands revitalized, a testament to the power of music and art to inspire preservation and celebrate timeless beauty.
Amidst the oil-rich city of Kirkuk lies a story of displacement, resilience, and the enduring hope for a shared future. This documentary delves into the complex history of Kirkuk, focusing on the impact of Saddam Hussein's Arabization policy and the mass deportation of Kurdish families.
Part One:
We meet Kurdish families living in refugee camps, their lives upended by forced displacement. Their stories paint a poignant picture of hardship and longing for home.
Witnessing their difficult conditions in the weeks leading up to Saddam's fall, we hear their hopes and dreams for a new Iraq where they can return to Kirkuk and rebuild their lives.
Part Two:
As liberation dawns, the film shifts to Kirkuk itself. We meet diverse residents, including Arabs brought in during Arabization, and explore the city's complex social tapestry.
Through their voices, we gain a deeper understanding of the conflict's impact on all communities and the challenges of reconciliation.
Beyond the historical narrative, the film seeks:
To understand the perspectives of all residents, acknowledging the pain and injustices experienced by Kurds, Christians, and some Turkmen under Arabization.
To explore potential solutions for a shared future in Kirkuk, where all communities can feel safe and respected.
To inspire dialogue and understanding, fostering empathy and a path towards reconciliation.
This is not just a documentary about Kirkuk; it's a story about the human cost of conflict and the enduring power of hope for a peaceful future.
In the sun-drenched valleys and windswept plains of Kurdistan, Iraq, a silent storm brews. An unsettling question hangs heavy in the air: Are they equipped? Not for battle, but for the future. The finger of suspicion points towards the very institutions meant to prepare them – the vocational and educational centres. Can these crumbling walls, echoing with whispers of doubt and choked with limited resources, truly forge the tools and skills needed to navigate the ever-shifting demands of the Kurdish market?
This documentary is not just a chronicle of shortcomings. It's a descent into the labyrinthine heart of a system struggling to breathe. We weave through classrooms where dreams wrestle with disrepair, and boardrooms where passionate educators grapple with funding cuts. We meet the students – eyes flickering with hope and desperation – and hear the seasoned voices of their teachers, etched with both frustration and unwavering dedication.
However, this is not a sign of despair. It's a clarion call for action. We gather the stakeholders – the educators, the administrators, the employers, and most importantly, the youth themselves – around a crackling fire of critical dialogue. Can we, together, forge a path forward? Can collaborative action ignite a transformation that transcends brick and mortar, that lays the very foundation for a thriving, empowered Kurdish society?
Join us on this urgent journey, as we dissect the state of education in Kurdistan Region, Iraq. Witness not just the peeling paint and cracked windows, but the human stories pulsing beneath them. Feel the frustration, the yearning, the quiet resilience that burns bright even in the dimmest corners. This is a quest for more than just a diploma; it's a fight for the future of a generation, a region, a people.
Will they be equipped? The answer lies not in dusty classrooms, but in the collective will to build a brighter tomorrow.
