Dear Parents and Guardians:
Welcome to Algebra II! My name is Dayna English and I will be your student’s teacher. I can assure you that this year will be both educational and productive. My goal is to ensure that your student is prepared to be successful here and ready for college and life math.
In our first day of class, we discuss class policies, procedures and expectations. I would like to share these with you and ask for your cooperation and collaboration. Respect for teachers, administrative staff, fellow classmates and property is vital. Please ensure that your student attend school every day that they are scheduled to do so. It is extremely important that students arrive at school on time, prepared with their math notebook, pencil or pen and completed homework. When learning from home, please ensure that your student has a safe and quiet place to work and completes the weekly assignment by Sunday evening. Since we learn new topics every session, missing one class can affect your student’s progress. On line help is available on my website if you would like to be involved in your student’s math lessons. There are many resources out there and I am happy to help you find and use them to support your student.
Exams and Assignments Your student will be aware of exams and assignment due dates at least one week in advance. Unless a student has a medical excuse for missing an exam, a makeup will not be given. Every Friday will have a math skills quiz from the topics covered during the week. Our assignments and daily schedule are posted in Google Classroom and on the class website: http://tinyurl.com/msenglish. You will also find tutoring resources, videos of lessons and practice work tests. There are lots of things to do and learn on line, so take advantage of this free resource!
Class Standards:
· Every student has a right to learn in a productive classroom
· We respect the culture of our diverse community
· We arrive in class on time and prepared with supplies and homework
· We respect the advanced technology that we borrow in class and afterschool
· We maintain a professional environment and our new technology, no food, drinks, gum or candy are allowed in class – there are NO exceptions to this rule.
As long as you try to do your best every day, complete homework, classwork and participate in our class discussions and respect class rules, you will get a great grade! The Grading policy is as follows:
Assessments (Formal and informal): 30%
Projects: 30 %
Class work (Includes Class Notes and Participation): 30 %
Homework (Primarily on Line): 10 %
Scholars will always can work on extra credit assignments as well as go back and fix things which might not have gone so well on the first try. Be proud of your work, it will become a permanent addition to your portfolio. Everyone can (and should) get a good grade in my class!
Most of the things we will use in Math class are very expensive, (Chromebooks,, the TI-84 graphing calculators and whiteboards). They need to be treated carefully. You will be responsible for everything you use in this course. Technology tools will be returned at the end of each period, shut down appropriately and clean. Before you use anything that is new, you will learn how to use it correctly.
Please discuss this agreement with your parents, please sign below and return the letter to me in your next class. In addition to calling the HELP number, this is your FIRST homework grade!
