Message from HOD

On behalf of all the members of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering (DMSE), I extend my warm greetings.

Historically, our department started as Centre for Materials Science and Technology (CMST), which was later converted to Centre for Polymer Science and Engineering (CPSE) to address the need of a phenomenally growing polymer industry. The Centre finally broadened into the new department, DMSE at the beginning of the year 2018.

We offer Ph. D., M.S.(R) and two Masters (M. Tech.) degrees which are built on a strong base of advanced and diverse graduate courses and encourage students to undertake research that is challenging and intellectually stimulating. The research conducted in the department is truly multidisciplinary bringing in concepts from frontier areas in metals, polymers, functional materials, nanomaterials, electronic materials, biomaterials and other sciences. We plan to introduce the new B. Tech. program in Materials Engineering in the year 2020.

Although new, our department aims to be one of the premier departments of Materials Science and Engineering in the country. We plan to adopt an industry centric aggressive growth strategy to build a strong department engaging the existing faculty and recruiting new ones with various specializations in the emerging areas of materials science and engineering.
