I believe that students are the future; and as a teacher, I can influence the type
of people the students will become. I want to ensure that any students I teach are able to understand the content as we
ll as see how it is relevant to their current lives and any impact it could have on the future. I have a passion for passing knowledge across and it fills me with joy when a look of understanding appears on a student’s face. Growing up with a brother who has Downs syndrome has given me plenty of experience with behaviour control as well as a lot of patience, I have seen many techniques fail and succeed with him, it is important to keep trying
As every learner is different it is essential to understand each of yo
ur students and the best way in which they learn, in doing so you can create a plan to ensure that student has the best possible chance of learning. This personalised learning is whereby the roles of students is moved from being a “consumer” of education to being “co-producers and collaborators” of their education (ITALI, 2015). This is where students are able to contribute to what is being taught and how it is taught rather than just being forced to learn what and how the teacher wants. This will lead to the students being more involved and motivated to complete tasks and learn, such intrinsic motivation has been proven to work better than extrinsic motivation.
I learnt something new and different at each of the practicum that I attended, having being a student of catholic schools all of my life, it was a real shock for me the first time that i went to a public school and saw the lack of control that many teachers had over their students.
