As a teacher it is essential that I utilise a wide variety of strategies to facilitate inclusive participation and engagement for all students this includes: different methods of presenting information to the students, using different motivational tactics and giving students a say in how they learn. It is important to have engaged students, and as such it is the role of the teacher to ensure that the lessons prepared will keep students focused on their learning and the tasks at hand.
Another role of the teacher in the classroom is to provide every student with some affirmation, they must feel accepted in the class, regardless of what happens. Each student should know that
at least in my classroom they are safe, cared for and they matter. This sense of acceptance will help students express themselves and more likely to participate in discussions
Inclusive participation should be planned for in advance, and works best when used in a lesson plan. Simple modifications to activities such as using groups, or sharing information with others can increase the amount of information the students retain. A variety of techniques should be used and constantly evaluated to see what works best for your students.
It is my role as the teacher to teach EVERY student in the class, and the best way to plan a class for your students, is to know each student as well as you can. Every student can be taught anything, as long as the information is available to them in the way which they understand, it is the teachers role to know how to best teach each student.
As well as teaching the students in the way which works best for them and produces the best quality learning, the easiest way to get students engaged and participating is to teach content which is both interesting and relevant to them. The students should be able to choose how some content is covered and be involved in the topic selections whenever possible. This will allow the students to feel as though they have some control over their education.
