ANIMALIA (Part Two)

The African Jungle

The second section of Animalia is The African Jungle, where the parks Greater flamingo, Okapi, Ring-tailed lemurs and chimpanzees can be found.

A large wooden bridge crosses over both the Flamingo pool and the Lemur exhibit. To the left are the Greater flamingos and to the right are the Ring-tailed lemurs:

There is quite a large flock of Greater Flamingo at the zoo:

The Flamingo pool is shallower nearer the banking but gradually deepens towards the waterfall:

The waterfall is used as a barrier to prevent flamingos from wading into the lemur exhibit. In this image you can also see the opening between the rock walls where the flamingos can access their off-show holding area:

The Ring-tailed lemur exhibit. Tall trees and bare branches offer great climbing opportunities for the lemurs:

To the back of the exhibit, behind the rock walls, is the Ring-tailed lemur off-show holding area:

Overview of (half) The African Jungle:

Approaching the Common chimpanzee exhibit:

Several tall glass viewing windows allow visitors to get a close look at the chimpanzees:

There are several of these viewing windows positioned around the exhibit, giving visitors an all-round view of the exhibit. The larger viewing windows are fitted with their own shade structure:

We have a small chimpanzee group at the zoo:

Another of the smaller viewing windows:

The exhibit features many natural climbing structures for the chimpanzees to use:

There are several ground substrates in use, including sand, dirt and grass:

An overview of the chimpanzee exhibit. You can see the chimpanzees off-show holding facilities to the top of the exhibit:

The Okapi exhibit is in three sections. There are two outdoor areas for the okapi to freely access and there is also an off-show indoor area.

This is the first outdoor exhibit for the okapis. It is much smaller than the second outdoor area and is designed to display the Okapi in natural jungle surroundings:

The zoo keeps a breeding pair of okapi:

This is the viewing area for the second outdoor area (the paddock):

The paddock is much more spacious than the other outdoor area:

This is the off-show holding area:

Unfortunately, this is where our tour stops, as I never completed building this zoo in the end.
