The course pacing and assignments are almost identical to the regular chemistry class. The major differences between the courses are:
The addition of the science fair project which will be ongoing throughout the year and factor into the Lab grade
Less information will be provided to you when you take your quizzes (you will be expected to memorize more information)
Your grades are weighted less for HW/CW and more for Lab.
Preparation for the Hawaii State Science and Engineering Fair is a requirement for all Honors students at McKinley High School. Students will form groups of 2 or 3 and are encouraged to explore topics of their interest through scientific inquiry. A 200-point project will span the first three quarters of the year. The research & experimental design portion will occur during quarter 1. The experiment and final report will be completed during quarter 2; the presentations and competitions will take place during the 3rd quarter. Since science fair topics often span a broad range of difficulty, advancement to the District Science Fair is required of students wishing to obtain an A for the project.
