give someone a clear view of what's happening, explain to audience, give detail about a topic
EXAMPLE
If you are writing about why the colour RED should be considered the number one colour of all time you might write about:
- the colour red can take you on a mental vacation and let you dream of warm places
- red is in a lot of the colours of Pro Sports teams, so if the colour red is good enough for a pro team then it must be good enough for me
- the best condiment of all time is the colour red...conincidence...I think not
SO,
Three BIG IDEAS are:
- dream of warm places
- Pro Sports teams
- best condiment
All those ideas could persuade someone of the importance of the colour RED, which obviously means it's the best...right :)
Those ideas COULD persuade someone to like RED more....Good, since I want to write a persuasive speech

Then you tell them what you told them."
