Juniors:
Revise your notes each week (read over them)
use the activities on this website to memorise terms and definitions, especially if we are more than half-way through a topic
make your own flashcards if they help your memory; using the cards with a friend can make them more fun
REPEATING things is the only way most people memorise them. Just doing things once in class only works if you have a very, very good memory.
Seniors:
You can study in any or all of the following ways:
read over your notes from class (e.g., try reading over a topic each week)
use online quizzes (many science ones are linked to on this site - use the 'search this site' function at top right)
make flashcards; use these to memorise ideas, definitions and facts FLASHCARDS REALLY WORK
make boardgames and question/answer cards (design your own, have study get-togethers or play them at school)
get a study group together or buddy-up and ask each other questions - hold a study party (with parents' permission)
use the online resource studyit
ask your teacher or a friend to go over material whenever you find a concept you don't think you could explain in an exam
ONLY if you want to spend money (not recommended) purchase the foldout study guides from a bookstore; or better still , MAKE YOUR OWN (do this by making mindmaps of the topics in each subject)
ensure you understand the words 'define', 'describe' and 'discuss'
make diagrams and mindmaps to link ideas from your learning together
be strict but kind to yourself: make a study plan and stick to it, but give yourself rewards. In 7th form (Year 13), mine was 20 minutes reading a novel for every 40 minutes I studied.
break up your study into chunks, don't try to do 3 hours in a row!
keep exercising and eat healthy; don't overdo the caffiene and remember that energy drinks are full of the stuff (too many actually makes your heart race - be careful)
attempt practice exams and ASK YOUR TEACHER to go over answers you don't get right or can't attempt
PLEASE REMEMBER: your teachers are a resource, just like a study guide or the world wide web. USE THEM. ASK THEM QUESTIONS.
