The following is an overview of the homework policy in our class this year. Please take a moment to read through the outline, discuss it with your child, and read the contract on the last page. I thank you in advance for your support and cooperation.
What is the purpose of homework? Homework is important because it helps reinforce concepts learned in class, prepares students for upcoming lessons and tests, allows for clarification of “fuzzy” concepts, teaches responsibility, and helps students develop positive study habits.
When will homework be assigned? Homework will be assigned nightly, Monday through Thursday, but not usually on Friday. It should take about 30 minutes each night. If assignments are taking much longer than this, please contact me.
What happens if students do not complete their homework? If students choose not to complete their homework, they will fill out a Notice of Missing Homework Slip and have it signed by a parent or guardian.
What happens if students complete their homework carelessly or do not follow directions? All assignments should be completed neatly and carefully. Students will not receive credit for completion of homework if it is done carelessly.
What happens if students’ assignments and/or homework books are not signed each night? Please look over and sign or initial listed assignments in your child’s homework book each day. Parents should also look over completed assignments each night. It is your child’s responsibility to show you their completed homework and it will be checked daily.
Parents are KEY in the
Success of Their Children!
How can you help with homework?
-Form a homework routine with your child.
-Allow for a well-lit, distraction-free homework area complete with any supplies and materials needed.
-Read over and initial assignments listed in your child’s homework book. Have your child check off each assignment after it is completed.
-Assist your child only if needed. Do not do it for them!
-Inspect homework once it is completed. Is it neat? Is it organized? Does it show effort? Good habits should be formed now!
-Praise for effort!
What if there is a problem?
***Please contact me! Call me or write me a note in your child’s homework book. If an assignment is too difficult and your child finds it impossible to complete with little or no assistance, stop and write me a note. We’ll go over it!
