Class Motto: Always try your best and teamwork! As a matter of fact, they’re part of our rules! Doing one’s best and being community minded are the two main components of being a successful student. Children have their own specific strengths and weaknesses, and they all work at different paces. I encourage students to strive for their own personal best and not to be concerned about their classmates’ achievements. Our personal best is always changing, and if we know and use our strengths to help us today, we can achieve even more tomorrow.
Grades: Grades are considered personal information. I encourage students to avoid discussion of grades throughout the school year. This can help prevent feelings of disappointment, perceptions of superiority, or hurt feelings. If the students are doing their personal best (and they will know it) they will be proud of their grades.
Birthday Celebrations: If you would like your child to celebrate their birthday in school, you are welcome to send in a snack for all to share. This snack will need to be store bought and INDIVIDUALLY WRAPPED. **Please notify me several days in advance to coordinate, as we have allergies and food sensitivities in the class. If your child’s birthday is in the summer we will be celebrating those birthdays later in the year. Birthday celebrations last approximately 15 minutes. We currently have 26 students in our class (14 boys and 12 girls)!
Communication: If you need to get in touch with me, please call the school (631-696-8650) and leave a message, jot me a note in your child’s homework notebook, or email me at smoscatiello@sachem.edu. I will try to get back to you on the same day by phone, through a letter, or e-mail. At the very latest, I will get back to you the following day. I will be utilizing Remind to send out pictures, reminders, announcements and class happenings throughout the year. Be sure to sign up to stay in the loop!
Dismissal: Please be sure to write a note if there will be any change in the dismissal routine of your child. If your child will not go on the bus or attend aftercare as he/she normally would, please send in a note. If you are picking your child up early, please notify the Main Office and pick up your child NO LATER THAN 3:00 PM. Be sure to have an ID with you.
Money: When sending any money to school, please send the exact amount in a small envelope or baggie. Please label it with your child’s name, the amount, and its purpose. If it is for lunch or snack, please write your child’s ID number on it as well.
Enrichment: I will be providing you and your child the opportunity to purchase books from several monthly book clubs. If you decide to purchase books, please return the order form tear off with a check made out to the specific book club. No cash please. You may also order by credit card online. To order online, go to www.scholastic.com.bookclubs. On the parent page, click the "Don't have a Username and Password" link. Then register for your own username and password. When prompted, enter the one-time Class Activation Code: GP43N. This code ensures that your order will be sent to me.
Absences: If your child is going to be absent, please call Lynwood in the morning. Please remember to send in an absent note stating the reason for his/her absence on the day your child returns to school. Unfortunately, no note means an illegal absence and will be noted on your child’s permanent attendance record. Your child can receive their missed work when they return to school or they can view it on Google Classroom. (Work is posted every Monday for the week.)
Dress Code: Children should dress appropriately for the weather. For your child’s safety, I ask that sneakers or shoes be worn to school. Your child will not be able to play on the playground equipment without wearing the proper shoes.
I thank you for your time and consideration regarding these important messages. Please feel free to contact me with any additional questions you may have.
