Beginning of the Year Language Arts and Reading Information

August 2023

Dear Parents,

Welcome back to another school year!  I am so excited to meet each new sixth grade student. Together, we can and will make this school year the best learning opportunity for all. 

As I continue to prepare for the upcoming school year, I wanted to send out some information to help you and your child be successful.  We will be using Google Classroom to instruct and learn the various concepts in our language arts and reading curriculum.  Therefore, I have attached a link to a video that gives both students and parents an overview of how to join Google Classroom.  If possible, please watch this video and have students join their assigned language arts classroom if they have a device at home.  If not, I will show them how to join Google Classroom when they come to school.  Another neat feature of Google Classroom is the opportunity to receive guardian summaries regarding your student’s progress.  I ask each parent to sign up for this opportunity; however, I will also be inviting parents too if you are unable to do it on your end.

I have also attached an invite to sign up for Remind.  I will use this system to send out reminders and quick information. The great thing is you can reply to me and that chat becomes private.   You can also start your own conversation with me through the Remind app.  It is a great way to keep communication lines open as well.  I encourage you to sign up today.  If you would like, your student can also sign up.

I know this school year is a big transition for students, and students may be feeling a little overwhelmed and scared. That is okay.  Please know that I will assist students during this transition to the best of my ability and help them become comfortable and confident students.  Overall, I am eager to learn and work with each student, and I am sure they will even be able to teach me a few things.
