Welcome to our Going 3-D with GRC website. This site is a collection of vetted, three-dimensional lessons aligned to the Next Generation Science Standards and state standards developed from the Framework for K-12 Science Education. The lessons were developed by teachers across districts and states utilizing local phenomena. The teachers who developed these lessons participated in professional development with Brett D. Moulding and Kenneth L. Huff over the past five years. Brett was on the committee that wrote the Framework for K-12 Science Education and a lead writer of the NGSS. Kenneth was also on the NGSS writing team and has spent the last 5 years applying these lessons in his classroom. Scientist Spotlights offers assignments and implementation tips for incorporating diverse scientists in classes. A Scientist Spotlights assignment allows a free, out-of-class curriculum supplement, that introduces students to counter-stereotypical examples of scientists while teaching course content. Scientist Spotlights differ from activities that simply present pictures or stories of scientists to students in that they convey course content and create opportunities for students to reflect deeply on who does science and how it relates to them. Reflection activities assist students in changing their views of who can do science.
Biologists and Graph Interpretation (BioGraphI) is a Research Coordination Network sponsored by NSF that provides opportunities for faculty to work collaboratively to increase student persistence in biology by improving the representation of diverse scientists in the curriculum and incorporating data interpretation skills. BioGraphI modules address data literacy while fostering diversity in undergraduate biology classrooms. The lessons include graph and data interpretation, featuring the scientific contributions of biologists who are members of historically excluded groups (HEGs). They include video interviews with these biologists, allowing students to hear directly from HEGs about their discoveries. Visit the site to see how to join and receive financial support to develop new lessons.
Project Biodiversify is a repository of teaching materials and methods aimed at enhancing human diversity and inclusivity in biology courses. Project Biodiversify is an online space that promotes the humanization, diversification, and inclusivity of biology classrooms. Check out the site and materials to learn about how to engage in and contribute to this project. The News & Events page will help you get started. They have a specific approach to creating materials using photos, stories, research papers, key figures, and the societal relevance of the research. Kat Soto's Conservation Action Plan for the Green Salamander is one example. The group is also willing to do workshops.

Real Science 4 Kids Science is the newest science program from Gravitas Publications. Similar in content to Exploring the Building Blocks of Science, the author introduces chemistry first, followed by biology, physics, geology, and astronomy. The beautiful hardcover textbook presents complex science concepts in a way kids will understand. Textbooks are written at a slightly advanced reading level so parents should be reading the text with the student if using the books corresponding to the grade level - unless the student can read and comprehend the text independently. Throughout the textbook are engaging illustrations, chapter summaries, and pronunciation for science vocabulary.
Student and teacher pages are available separately. Student pages include a study notebook with fun activities to go with each chapter and hands-on labs that correlate with specific chapters. Some of the activity pages require students to cut and glue to make a layered mini book. Teacher pages include lesson plans, mid-term and final quizzes, and answers to the student notebook. A Digital Library subscription is also available, which gives you access to all grade levels of texts, PDF student and teacher resources, and a full Science Library of early readers for science.
