Spanish Objectives
Students will be able to greet others at different times of the day, introduce themselves to others, respond to classroom directions, begin using numbers, tell time, and identify parts of the body.
Students will talk about things in the classroom, ask questions about new words and phrases, use the Spanish alphabet to spell words, talk about things related to the calendar, and learn about the Aztec Calendar.
Depending on time, we may also do the following:
Students will be able to describe weather conditions, identify the seasons, and compare weather in the Northern and Southern Hemispheres.

Realidades book and workbook
Binder/Folders with three hole punches
Must have sections for: homework, notes, vocabulary, bellringers, and verb charts
3. Single subject notebooks (number based on organization)
4. Pencils and Pens
5. One Box of Kleenex and/or Lysol Disinfecting Wipes/Spray (up to 2 pts extra credit)
You will be required to have all materials (including extra credit) by Wednesday, August 22. While you are free to organize your binder or folder however you wish, you must stay organized. There will be times when I need to collect your work and you need to be able to find it and hand it in.
Classroom Procedures:
RULES: I have only three rules. MEMORIZE THEM!!!
1. Be respectful.
*Respect and honor others’ ideas, thoughts, and property.
*No name calling or treating others or their things with disrespect.
*No cell phones, IPOD’s, etc… may be used during class time; turn off alerts and vibrations.
*Treat yourself with respect.
2. Be responsible.
*You are responsible to be to class on time every day. You must be in your seat when the bell rings.
*You are responsible for getting your homework done before the bell rings.
*You are responsible for making sure you have what you need each day. If you need to borrow a
pencil, etc… from a classmate, this must be done before the bell rings.
*If you need to use the restroom at the beginning of class, ask the teacher if you may go before the
bell rings. Other than that, you will only receive two drink/bathroom breaks during our hex.
*You must get your passbook signed and sign out on the sign-out sheet to leave the room.
*If you need help, you are responsible for coming to me to get the help you need.
3. Do your best.
*Doing your best means putting forth your best effort all the time.
*When you come to class, start on the bell ringer and be ready for class to start.
*The bell will not start or end the class, I will.
*As this is a language course, no food and/or beverages are allowed unless otherwise instructed.
No gum. It is hard to communicate otherwise. (Plain/Clear water is allowed).
*Be ready to learn every day and have fun doing it.
Grading:
Daily Work:
Some of your homework will be graded for accuracy, and some of your homework will simply be checked for completion. Each day I will go around to look at your work. Do it. As Spanish is a difficult course, trying to use the new material is stressed.
Two or three times per week, I will record whether or not you completed it. If homework is ALL done and directions are followed, you will receive 5 out of 5 points. If the assignment has less than 20 questions and a you have all but 1 done or the directions are not followed, you will receive 3 out of 5. If the assignment has more than 20 questions and you have all but 2 or 3 done, you will receive 3 points. Anything less will receive a “0.”
Students will, however, receive one freebie. This will be marked by an X in the gradebook. This means that it will not hurt you, but it will not help you either.
Quizzes/Tests/Projects:
Quizzes and tests help you to demonstrate what you know. There will be a planned quiz or test about every week. Pop Quizzes will also be used to make sure you are doing and understanding your homework. As these are worth more points, they will make up a larger percentage of your overall grade.
Participation:
In order to become proficient in Spanish, you need to use it. Therefore, you will receive a participation grade. To earn a participation point, you need to give input valid to the class discussion. This may be through volunteering to give an answer or asking questions that further the discussion. Asking me to translate something does not count as a valid question. Choosing to not behave correctly will cause you to lose a point.
You will need to get 30 points. I will mark them in my seating chart and will make it available for you to check. If you are gone and need to make up points, you will either need to participate more in classes when present, or set up a time to make it up with me personally.
Make-Up Work:
Students are responsible for getting missed homework from the teacher. It is strongly encouraged that you do not simply ask another student as they may not always be correct. Students will receive the number of days absent plus one – not to exceed 10 days.
In the event a student knows they will be gone, they must get that homework before leaving and have it completed upon returning to class. This does not include quizzes and tests. These must be made up before the student leaves. This is also true for those who will be gone for a school-sponsored activity.
Those who did not know they were going to be gone must take the test the day they return - this will almost always need to be done outside of class time.
If the student missed the review, however, the teacher and student will work together to figure out an appropriate amount of time to review and take the test. If a student does not complete the test within that time frame, the student will be docked 20% each day.

A+ 100 C+ 77-79 F 0-59
A 93-99 C 73-76
A- 90-92 C- 70-72
B+ 87-89 D+ 67-69
B 83-86 D 63-66
B- 80-82 D- 60-62
Extra-Credit may be available. The extent of it will depend upon need and previous work.
