SS Overview
7th Grade Social Studies
Orientation Sheet
OVERVIEW – 7th Grade Social Studies includes an exciting body of information dealing with the origins of Western Civilization and India. In 6th grade you studied Ancient World Civilizations with a focus on geography. This year we will continue that process by studying India, Judaism, the founding of Islam, and the two cultures that have had the most direct impact on our own civilization: Greece and Rome. As we proceed with these studies we will also be reviewing and enhancing your geography skills and knowledge, learning about some of the world’s great religions, and analyzing the impact these ancient cultures have had upon our own world.
NOTEBOOK- This is your MOST IMPORTANT RESOURCE in the classroom. In it you will keep classroom notes as well as select homework and classroom assignments. It must include a table of contents and be brought to class every day. Much of the information for your tests and quizzes will be based on information it this notebook and it will help you learn valuable organizational skills.

Grading:
The grade system is based upon points. Each assignment is worth a certain amount of points, some more than others. At the end of the semester the amount of points that you have accumulated will be added up and divided by the number of points that were possible. The resulting percentage is your final grade. Normally points follow the following scale:
Homework 10 points
Classwork 10 pointes
Quizzes 20-25 points
Quests 50 Points
Tests 100 Points
Projects 50 (Short term)
100 ( Extended)
I am looking forward to a great year. Work hard, have fun, and try to make sure that everyone on team 7A improves EVERY DAY!
