All emails MUST have your full name and block in the subject line and also on the document that is being handed in!!
I have received many great assignments on a variety of cultures. Some of you have really outdone yourself. Good job! Because of the effort that has been put into the assignments I am giving you this week to catch up. This will give you an opportunity to get some work done for your other classes, and it will give a chance for others to complete the Cultures assignment for Socials. Use your time to get caught up with things.
Mr. Gamache
Nice work for those of you who handed in your research on your chosen culture! You had some very interesting choices. Now it is up to you to create some sort of presentation to complete the assignment. It can be pages or powerpoint or whatever visual format you like. (But not a Mac specific program please. It needs to be read by a PC) Make it interesting and visually appealing. Give some fun facts and relate the cool and wonderful things that you have learned about your chosen culture. The assignment is found in the Docs section. Be sure to follow the assignment instructions and cite your sources properly. Again, just do your best with it and learn a few things.

Last week you did a little research on 3 cultures from around the world. This week I would like you to learn more about one of those cultures. In the 'Docs' section is the Global Cultures assignment. You should spend some time this week looking into one cultural group for section one only. (art, language, music, dance, etc.) What did these people do that made them distinct and special? In certain islands of the Pacific, young men are required to go to the jungle and select two vines that they will then attach to the top of a tall tower, and to their ankles, and then they leap from the tower! That is SUPER interesting. Check out the video.
In Mongolia, people train eagles to hunt foxes for them. (Video can be a little graphic) Check out the video:
So find a culture that you think is pretty darn interesting and do some research on what makes them unique and cool. Record the info and your sources. That is it for this week! Don't make the presentation, just record some intriguing facts about a non-European culture.
There are a huge variety of interesting cultures around the world. We have spent some time in Europe, but now I would like you to discover some other cultures that you have never heard about.
Hey there. I hope that you had a good weekend. You watched a video last week on the Columbian Exchange (see below). It discusses many of the "things" that moved back and forth from Europe to North America. For this week's assignment:
When we last met we looked at how the Europeans were able to use technology and tools to bring the wealth of the world back to Europe, making themselves quite rich. Ask yourself why the Belgians are famous for chocolate and the English for tea, even though neither of them grow the materials for those products. Now we will go to one of the most famous, and perhaps terrible, European explorers: The Conquistadors! (look up what Conquistadors means in Spanish)
Hello grade 8's. A big thanks to those of you that have sent in your homework. I am enjoying going through your Renaissance assignments.
As of now, I am still looking for many Renaissance assignments and your latest assignment from April 27th, which is below. I won't assign anything new and instead I will ask that you focus on getting this past work done. I know that juggling your schedules is difficult right now but I want you to do your best to get some work in to me. So take the time to get your work to me, and if you have already done so, then you can focus on some of your other classes. I will post something new by Monday.
Take care of yourselves and try to get some fresh air.
Mr. G
We are moving on to the "Age of Exploration", when the Europeans began to explore the world in order to exploit the riches that they found and to make themselves very wealthy. You can see this wealth on display if you ever travel to London, Paris, Amsterdam or Vienna, to name only a few.
