Honor Roll

List of Civil War Veterans, Residents of North Adams at time of service from 1861-1865, who were killed in action, died as prisoners of war, or died of disease.

The information provided herein was taken from the eight volumes published by the Adjutant General of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, The Adams Transcript (circ 1878), The Tenth Regiment Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry 1861-1864, by Alfred S. Roe, and confirmed via the Civil War Soldiers and Sailors System, and the Massachusetts Civil War Research Center, and other various web resources.

It is to be expected that throughout the years information is either incomplete or conflicting. The following are examples of this pandemonium:

• The name Schwarneeberger is probably incorrect, although it was documented that way in the records. My guess is the proper name is Schwarzenberg. You can see how this can be misconstrued.

• York (Wallace) is also listed as Yaw in some sources.

• The following soldiers were reported "missing". I did not add them to the list for fear they may have deserted. No information is known, to me, of these men.

-James Hodge

-Wilbur F. Ward

Local Civil War Volunteers

Here is a list of the brave volunteers who fought in the Civil War.

Keep in mind...the American Civil War was fought before the incorporation of North Adams. Thus, the soldiers mentioned herein may be listed as residing in either Adams, North Adams, or South Adams.

There are soldiers that were born in Adams/North Adams/South Adams, but moved to another town by the time of enlisting, thus will not be listed. Conversely, there will be soldiers listed here NOT born in Adams/North Adams/South Adams, but resided here at their time of enlistment.

The listing is a time-consuming task, thus will be completed as time allows. Thank you for your patience.
