Do You Take Things Personally?
Don’t Take Anything Personally. Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won’t be the victim of needless suffering.
-Don Miguel Ruiz
When you take something personally or are offended, you inadvertantly agree with what has been said about you.
Does this ring true or are you still having a hard time grappling with this concept?
If you are still wrestling with this statement, it could stem from not being able to take responsibility for your own thought streams and self-identification. I know this sounds a bit harsh but if we are going to effectively tackle self-worth issues; we need to get our hands initially dirty so that we can give them a good scrubbing.
Complete Honesty is Required
A wise man is superior to any insults which can be put upon him, and the best reply to unseemly behavior is patience and moderation. ~Moliere
When someone insults you it is only the tip of the iceberg to what’s lying underneath. When you feel slighted you are actually supporting the view of your counterpart because it has touched a nerve. If your nerves are being twisted, you know there is something more to the perceived insult that meets the eye.
Everything that irritates us about others can lead us to an understanding of ourselves.
~Carl Jung
The person doing the insulting is only reminding you of something that needs to be taken out within yourself to have a good, long and hard look at. Although you probably won’t want to give them a gold medal for their efforts, I assure you that some people are in this life to push your buttons. Although this may seem unloving, they actually give you the opportunity to reconsider your belief structures – a chance to turn your trash into treasure.
Taking a Look at the Opposite Pole — Confidence
If someone tried to hurt you, or perhaps even unintentionally, says something to you that you don’t agree with – no problem – you usually brush off this kind of ‘offense’ because it really doesn’t bother you. It could be an area in your life that you are 100% sure you have waxed.
We have to learn to be our own best friends because we fall too easily into the trap of being our own worst enemies.
~Roderick Thorp
So for instance, you are a rocket scientist and someone calls you stupid, the chances of you having a wobbly melt-down in the public lavatory are going to be slim. But let’s take another example, perhaps one that we all have had to deal with in one way or another.
Vanity Fair or Foul?
It ain’t what they call you, it’s what you answer to.
~W.C. Fields
Let’s say you are happy with your appearance and feel you are a fine specimen, someone passes by in a vehicle and shouts out, ‘hey, freak!’
Do you agree with that or not? If you are 100% confident that you are a perfectly dashing human being, just as the Universe intended, then you would most likely shrug the comment off and have a good chuckle about it. Why? This is because you whole-heartedly disagree with the statement.
However, if you are someone whose confidence peaks and troughs daily, you will probably instantly go into depression. The nerve that has been struck is your internal agreement about yourself, not what the other person has said. All they have done is ignite the spark on the BBQ that you are going to make sure you roast on. It is a form of self-torture. To agree with anyone over anything stemming from feelings of lack is disempowering.
Re-examine all that you have been told…dismiss that which insults your soul.
~Walt Whitman
We live and we learn, we travel within and we discover who we are.

A doctor entered the hospital in hurry after being called in for an urgent surgery. He answered the call asap, changed his clothes & went directly to the surgery block. He found the boy's father pacing in the hall waiting for the doctor. On seeing him, the dad yelled:
"Why did U take all this time to come? Don't U know that my son's life is in danger? Don't U have any sense of responsibility?"
The doctor smiled & said:
"I am sorry, I wasn't in the hospital & I came as fast as I could after receiving the call...... And now, I wish you'd calm down so that I can do my work"
"Calm down?! What if your son was in this room right now, would U calm down? If your own son dies now what will U do??" said the father angrily
The doctor smiled again & replied: "I will say what Job said in the Holy Book "From dust we came & to dust we return, blessed be the name of God". Doctors cannot prolong lives. Go & intercede for your son, we will do our best by God's grace"
"Giving advises when we're not concerned is so easy" Murmured the father.
The surgery took some hours after which the doctor went out happy,
"Thank goodness!, your son is saved!" And without waiting for the father's reply he carried on his way running. "If U have any question, ask the nurse!!"
"Why is he so arrogant? He couldn't wait some minutes so that I ask about my son's state" Commented the father when seeing the nurse minutes after the doctor left.
The nurse answered, tears coming down her face: "His son died yesterday in a road accident, he was in the burial when we called him for your son's surgery. And now that he saved your son's life, he left running to finish his son's burial."
Moral-Never judge anyone..... because U never know how their life is & what they're going through"

A group of frogs were travelling through the woods, and two of them fell into a deep pit. All the other frogs gathered around the pit. When they saw how deep the pit was, they told the unfortunate frogs they would never get out.
The two frogs ignored the comments and tried to jump up out of the pit.
The other frogs kept telling them to stop, that they were as good as dead. Finally, one of the frogs took heed to what the other frogs were saying and simply gave up. He fell down and died.
The other frog continued to jump as hard as he could. Once again, the crowd of frogs yelled at him to stop the pain and suffering and just die. He jumped even harder and finally made it out. When he got out, the other frogs asked him, "Why did you continue jumping? Didn't you hear us?"
The frog explained to them that he was deaf. He thought they were encouraging him the entire time.
This story holds two lessons:
1. There is power of life and death in the tongue. An encouraging word to someone who is down can lift them up and help them make it through the day.
2. A destructive word to someone who is down can be what it takes to kill them. Be careful of what you say. Speak life to those who cross your path.
The power of words... it is sometimes hard to understand that an encouraging word can go such a long way. Anyone can speak words that tend to rob another of the spirit to continue in difficult times.
Love You Dad:
A man was putting up family pictures on the newly painted walls of his house. He was using nails and a hammer in order to hang the picture frames. In the process, some nails got bent and fell down on the floor.
The man’s 4 yr old daughter was playing near by. She wanted to play with her dad and called out to him. However the man was busy with framing the pictures, and so ignored her calls and finally asked her to go outside and play with her brother. The girl saw the nails lying on the floor. So she picked up a few nails and went out to play along with her brother.
After a while the son came running in and told his dad ~ that the girl was scratching the newly purchased car with the nails. The man ran outside and in a fit of rage, the furious Man took his child’s hand & hit it many times, not realizing he was using the hammer, which was in his hand. With blood all over her hands, the girl was rushed to a nearby hospital.
The girl underwent an emergency operation. After a while, When the child saw her father in the hospital, with painful eyes she said : “Dad, I am so sorry, that I damaged your car “. With tears in her eyes, She continued looking at her hand and asked~ ‘Dad, when will I get back my fingers? I promise that I will never ever damage your car again’.
At the hospital, the child had lost all her fingers due to multiple fractures.
The man was so hurt and speechless, that he couldn’t stop sobbing and crying for hours. The girl had lost her fingers forever, because of his uncontrolled anger and stupid action.
He went back to the car and kicked it many times. Devastated by his own actions, sitting in front of the car he looked at the scratches, His daughter had written ‘LOVE YOU DAD’.
Moral: Don’t do something permanently stupid just because you are temporarily upset. If you are patient in one moment of anger , you will escape a hundred days of sorrow… Remember, anger is an acid that can do more harm to the vessel in which it is stored than to anything on which it is poured. Anger and Love have no limit.
Always remember that “Things are to be used and people are to be loved”. But the problem in today’s world is that “People are being used & Things are being loved”.
