Sea or Mountain?
SEA
i.e: Tabarca Island
First, some comments
Advice nº1 from a local: Anything is 40-50 km far from Alcoi. Rent a car with GPS from the Alicante Airport.
Advice nº2: Really avoid Benidorm (unless you wanna see a beer-drinking adult playground that gives a lot of pitty with people travelling for getting drunk and making noise etc.)
Comment : You can't avoid crowds in Spain in summer
Advice nº3: Altea, Xàbia (Javea), Tabarca Island, Alicante, Elche, La Vila Joiosa (Villajoyosa)...tons of towns to visit
Advice nº4: Elche, Elda and La Vila Joiosa are the leather shoe factories of Spain and Europe. If anybody wants to go shopping, just contact me at mmunto@gmail.com and I give you adresses...but check Richard Weizman and Chie Mihara as examples of Made in Spain.
Advice nº5: August is the month of town and village celebrations (old harvest celebrations). In case you're interested in going to one, contact me :-).
Summerplaces at the seaside of Alicante province: La Costa Blanca
Many choices. You have 212 km of coast named La Costa Blanca (White Coast) to enjoy.
Some beaches with the EU "blue qualification": El Carabassí , Urbanova, El Portet, Les Deveses, Los Arenales del Sol, La Almadrava, Advocat Cove, beaches of Tabarca (really recommend to visit this island, you can get there from Alicante or Santa Pola). El Racó de l'Albir in Alfaraz del Pi. The Granadella beach in Javea . The natural park El Penyó d'Ifach.
Remark:
Don't get suprised if you see half-naked people laying in any of these beaches. It's a very tolerant country with half or total nudism. You can find from teenagers to super-old ladys. There's no age restriction. Just don't be a nerd staring at people on the beach.
i.e. El Portet beach

Choices are staying in rural houses in the mountain (La Safranera, Mas de la Mota, Font Roja) or in Alcoi downtown (Reconquista, Hotel AC, Hotel Savoy)
