Meaningful, Intelligent, Theatrical Entertainment nurtures MITE
in people and their local and global communities!
MITE Theatre stretches youth and adults in musicality, physicality, empathy, creativity and focus.
We produce teams that play together, developing fun, smart, and often original shows.
We have toured some of our productions to schools and seniors' homes throughout the HRM and Nova Scotia.
We believe that a theatrical education that builds confidence, mixed with compassion, can empower individuals and communities to do amazing things!
MITE strives to foster hope and empowerment by creating joyful, meaningful,
and financially accessible theatrical experiences for children, youth and adults.
After 14 years of providing quality youth theatre education, initially as a volunteer-run organization,
MITE expanded in 2018, connecting with Dartmouth Players Community Theatre
to offer more classes and performance opportunities, offering its first classes for adults as well!
We are now based out of the North Woodside Community Centre.
Since its inception in 2004, MITE has:
*provided free, then low-cost, theatrical experiences for youth and adults
*developed a multi-award winning human rights education show that toured schools from 2012-2020
*performed three plays at the Atlantic Fringe Festival
*raised tens of thousands of dollars for and awareness about many organizations, including:
First Nations Child and Family Caring Society of Canada
Feed Others Of Dartmouth (Margaret's House - food donations)
Supportive Housing for Young Mothers
Maritime Conservatory of Performing Arts School of Dance
Out of the Cold Community Association
The Mi'kmaw Native Friendship Centre
MITE Theatre works to encourage and empower thoughtful youth and adult performers
to reach out to the greater population with respect and support.
MITE acknowledges that we gather in Punamu'kwati'jk
(Dartmouth, Nova Scotia), the ancestral and unceded territory of Mi'kma'ki,
the traditional land of the Mi'kmaq people.
We are humbled and grateful to be Treaty People.
We work to be responsible sharers of the land by creating props, set, and costume pieces from recycled materials,
re-purposing whenever possible, and by supporting organizations that work to nurture people and the planet.
