Fun facts and opinions
There are at least three women scientists in the United States who share my name. Every now and then I wonder whether I should publish under my Starbucks name, Mia. Sooner or later I tell Mia it is fine to just keep drinking, leave the work to me.
I went to a conference called "Perspective in Nonlinear Continuum Theories" recently. It is very academically therapeutic. It makes me want to talk about ideas and jokes again. This website quietly died several years ago after several mismatched conference experiences. If you also feel a little lost in your research community, and you happen to care about mathematics and mechanics the textbook way (the textbook you like—or the one you plan to write!), consider going to this rehab.
I play pickleballs three times a week -- it is the interdisciplinary sport between tennis, pingpong, and badminton. I found it continuously teach me life philosophies and social skills at this age. Try it if you are not very good at neither tennis, pingpong, nor badminton. However, if you are doing interdisciplinary research, don't try it unless you are committed to becoming really good at least one of them.
