Student congress mimics our legislative process. Teams of individual students compete in different houses (House and Senate) and prepare for a slate of Bills and Resolutions. A presiding officer (student) is elected and functions in the same role as the speaker of the house. Students alternate giving speeches in favor and against legislation, punctuated by a vote to end debate and vote on the legislation in between each negative and the next affirmative speech. Tournaments are usually on a Tuesday or Thursday.
