Question:
What would you do to help improve the current state of America's Economy?
I decided to ask this question as it is a very large problem, and it gets one to think on the grand scheme of things. I feel it is a framing question because everyone comes from very specific economic backgrounds which will lead people to be biased on their answer, regardless of how unbiased they try to be.
Answers:
Marc, 21, Biological Science Major. Current Health Care plan needs reforming. It doesn't make sense to have people all paying different percentages, but getting the same level of service.
Nicholas, 21, Mechanical Engineering Major. There should be a flat rate income tax system. This would work with people, regardless of income, getting charged the same percentage of their income. On top of this, there is a need for unemployment reform. People should be put to work if they are going to receive money, be it whatever skills they have they should do something. If they have no skills, they can attend school.
Rocco, 21, Communications Major. There needs to be a limit on the amount of time people can collect welfare and unemployment that is shorter than what it is now. Also, there should be a legalization of marijuana in this country in order for it to be taxed properly. He is in no way a supporter of the drug, but it makes business sense in eliminating some prison terms (lowering costs) and bringing in new tax revenue on a crop that is already sold at ridiculous amounts.
Kelly, 22, Research Assistant, Psychology & Spanish Degrees. Lower taxes by changing how people are taxed. Welfare spending should be reduced, and put towards educating the people.
John, 20, Criminal Justice. Increase taxes on companies that send their work overseas, and increase tariffs on those companies as a percentage of how much of their product is not produced in America. Also create incentives for people to buy American products, and beef up our at-home manufacturing.
Nici, 21, Political Science Major. Opening up drilling in Alaska as an immediate way to reduce spending on foreign oil. Get out of Afghanistan and Iraq. If America is going to fight a war, then it should be all or nothing, and it should be for a clear cut purpose.
Ted, 21, Business Administration major, concentration in Human Resources, applying to law school. There needs to be a revamping of managerial education in America. There is a huge lack of knowledge in the management of corporations, which results in a lack of faith from the employees. This can be achieved by investing in Human Resources within a company to start choosing better employees, and making them more satisfied. By increasing satisfaction among employees, you can increase productivity, and therefore profits in a company. This applies to America directly with it's leadership needing to be more knowledgeable. Generally government involvement within the economy, be it too much or too little, is hindering, and for this reason, lobbying should be limited from how it is currently done in today's government.
