Earn your Masters Degree working with the Detroit Zoo and Miami University!
Now accepting applications for 2026!
Pursue your passion with Detroit Zoological Society while you earn your master’s online from Miami University through the Advanced Inquiry Program (AIP). Created for working professionals, the AIP is a one-of-a-kind master’s program that immerses students in collaborative inquiry and action as they champion change. Through web-based coursework from Miami and face-to-face experiential learning and field study at Detroit Zoological Society, you will connect with classmates, Miami University faculty, zoo experts, and community leaders locally, nationally, and globally.
The AIP is designed for students from a range of backgrounds and career stages. With professional and academic mentoring and self-designed Master Plans, students adapt their degree path to fit their interests in fields such as community-engaged conservation, inquiry-driven education, environmental justice, learning across K-12 and informal settings, animal care and welfare, green business innovation, climate change, urban ecology, human-nature relationships, environmental restoration, and public engagement in science.
Applications are now being accepted until February 15. Courses begin in May 2026. For more information, applicants may contact the AIP Coordinator at Detroit Zoological Society, Claire Lannoye-Hall, at clannoyehall@dzs.org or (248) 336-5803. https://AIP.MiamiOH.edu
In addition to our master's degree programs, Project Dragonfly's core online and AIP web+ graduate courses may be taken on a stand-alone basis for professional development and lifelong learning. https://miamioh.edu/cas/graduate-studies/project-dragonfly/professional-development-courses/index.html
Interested in a global classroom? Miami’s Project Dragonfly also offers global field courses, which can count toward the AIP master’s degree. Earth Expeditions graduate courses occur online and at global field sites in 15 countries throughout Africa, Asia, Australia, and the Americas. https://EarthExpeditions.MiamiOH.edu

A Professional Learning Community
All life science educators in Michigan are invited to join the Michigan Association of Biology Teachers (MABT) to ensure high-quality life science instruction for all students in our state. As an affiliate of the National Association of Biology Teachers (NABT), we support life science educators in Michigan through networking and professional development opportunities.
Building a strong network of biology educators in our state is especially important as we work together to implement the important changes in biology education called for by the Next Generation Science Standards, Advanced Placement Biology Curriculum Framework, and Vision and Change in Undergraduate Biology Education.

Objectives of MABT
Develop a professional learning community of biology educators that are united in their commitment to implementing reform in biology education.
Connect teachers to resources and professional development opportunities to promote effective teaching and learning in biology classrooms.
We will connect and support Michigan biology teachers through series of workshops. These goals of these workshops are:
To grow the MABT community, facilitate networking of Michigan biology teachers, and share resources from NABT, BSCS, and HHMI.
Provide experiences that allow teachers to engage in the practices of science and deepen their content knowledge.
Share research-based strategies for formative and summative assessment that enable teachers to develop effective instruction for diverse learners.
Support teachers in analyzing and revising their own curriculum and instruction to better reflect the new national frameworks.
