Lizard Point, England, a historical starting point of ships' ocean passage. On the way back of his voyage on HM ship Centurion, J. Harrison showed with his first marine timepiece, that a headland that the officers had thought—presumably according to dead reckoning—to be the Start, was in fact the Lizard. This meant that the ship was off course, and constituted one of the first longitude determinations with marine timekeepers in history.
