First obtain the action file from here if you don't already have it.
1. To load the action file, first unzip it and then just drag it into Photoshop and it should appear in the Actions Panel, under rotated_logos08.
2. There are five actions in the file, each assigned a shortcut button: rotate (F2), resize, shadow (F3), save and close (F4), smallR (F5) and BgroundLR (F6)
3. First after opening your image, we will rotate it, select the rotate action and press play (or alternatively just press F2) and your image should rotate.
3. After the image has rotated, you need to manually crop the image, so the image stretches to the edge of the canvas (unfortunately there is no way to automate this part of the action).
4. Next after the image has been cropped we resize it and add the drop shadow, so run the resize, shadow command. NOTE: this command also has the save and close commands in it, but I have initially disabled these, it is best to leave these disabled until you are confident the logos will turn out correct first time. When you do want to use them, you’ll need to update the export command to point to the folder you want.
5. Now the logo is nearly ready, but for the first few (or ones with a poor quality original image) it is best to make sure you haven’t left any white background behind. Select the Rectangle Tool (U) and draw a shape behind the image, so it covers the entire image. Next select the shape in the layers panel and press Ctrl+[, to send it below the logo layer. Now re-colour the shape to a colour that doesn’t clash with the image. Check the logo to see if there is any white background present that shouldn’t be; if there is remove it using the laso, wand and eraser tools. If there is no white background or you have cleaned the image as much as possible then delete the shape.
6. Now we just need to save the file, before you run the save and close command the first time, you’ll need to set up a new save location, expand the action and double click on the export command, select the PNG-24 save format as always and select where on your computer you want to save the file.
7. That’s the normal rotated logo done; now you just need to do the small logo if you want. Open the rotated image and run the smallR action. Again note that this action has the export and close commands in it, I have disabled these initially as well, to make sure you don’t overwrite the original image.
8. BgroundLR action will create the standard Background Left and Right Logos, the first half of the action creates the background_right logo, whilst the part after the ‘Revert’ command creates the background_right logo. Again before you run this action the first time you’ll need to update the export commands by double clicking them and selecting a save location.
If you are doing many logos you can use the Batch command (File -> Automate -> Batch…) but remember that you need to manually crop the images yourself. Also the amount of images you can open at once depends on your computer.
