• Microsoft Security Essentials - comprehensive protection includes good AV and spyware/adware scanner, it's from Mircosoft
• Avast! Free Antivirus - excellent scan engine, modest usage of system resources, plenty of extra functionality, my favorite AV to use*
• AVG - bloatware, uses high level of system resources, good scan engine, not my top recommendation
• Avira - very good scan engine, not bloatware, ads to deal with, not my top recommendation
