The Club extend our sincere and deepest sympathies to Pauline, Brian-Former Glavey Player, Sharon, Elaine, Anne Marie-Former Player, Dan, Padraig, Mother-Josephine, Sister Mary, Brother John, the Neary, Hickey, & Raftery Families,& extended Members, & lifelong Friend Gerry(Glennon), & Mid-West Radio Colleagues on the untimely and sad passing of Michael (Neary). May his gentle soul rest in peace. Michael was the person who provided his technical expertise to the Club for sound and public address systems for many years for Club events-matches, fundraisers, Medal Presentations, and Team homecomings. Despite his very busy schedule, his great ability and willingness to assist, saw him there well ahead of the event, remaining to oversee proceedings, and he would be one of the last to leave post the event. He provided great quality work in all that he undertook. His very pleasant, unassuming demeanor, and jovial manner endeared him to all. Our very sincere gratitude Michael for all you have done to support our Club over many years and always with a very positive and generous spirit. Michael was a true gentleman, always considerate and kind. The world is definitely a sorrier place for your passing. You will be greatly missed, but so fondly remembered. The Club provided a "Guard of Honour" outside Granlahan Church as Michael's Cortege arrived for Requiem Mass @ 12.00 noon on Sunday 12th. "Ár dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis."

The Club take this opportunity to wish all Members, Players, Managements, Supporters, & the Communities of Ballinlough, Granlahan, Cloonfad, & Gorthaganny a very Happy, Healthy, Safe, & Prosperous New Year.
The Club were deeply saddened to hear of the death of one of our Founding Members, Club Vice-President, Honorary Member, Former Trustee, Former Chairman, Former Development Officer, Fundraiser extraordinaire , Co. Delegate, Former Manager, Selector, & Player, John Doherty, on Tuesday 30th December 2025. Sincere and deepest sympathies to his devoted Wife Pauline, Daughter Yvonne, Son David, Grandson Thomas, Daughter-in- Law Paula, Son-in-Law Tom, Sisters Anne & Mary, Brothers Martin, Tony, Gabriel, & Michael, the Doherty Families & extended Members, Nieces and Nephews, Friends, Former Team Mates, & the Community of Ballinlough. John was a wonderful Club & Community activist. His name is synonymous with Michael Glaveys Club. He wore many "hats" in the Club and was a tireless volunteer. He was Chairman of the Club for many years in the late Seventies and Eighties. Meetings with John at the Top Table were never renowned for their brevity. However, the work got done and major progress was made under his stewardship. John was the Chief negotiator on the deal to purchase the current Club Grounds overlooking Lake O' Flynn-formely Sampey's, from the Land Commission. This came to fruition in 1979 and thus began the development of the marvelous facilities which the Club now enjoy. He was an invaluable member of the Parks Committee which was set up for this development. John always thought big and his vision was to provide the very best facilities possible for the coming generations. His attitude was always "Why not". That spirit permeated through the Committee and after six years of hard work and total dedication The Peadar Earley Memorial Park was opened in 1986. John was an excellent fundraiser and his yellow Opel could be found anywhere, towing a trailer with the "Car Prize" on board, selling tickets at Shopping Centres, Fairs, Carnivals, & any where there was a crowd. He gave freely of his time and energy in everything he undertook. He travelled the length and breath of the Club Parishes to collect Players for training and Fixtures showing his immense commitment and dedication to the Club and ensuring the youth of the Parishes were well engaged in positive activities. He understood the importance of Community and the contribution of Club to the Parishes it serves. He was very well versed in the GAA Rules, Regulations, & Guidelines and shared his knowledge at Club & County Meetings freely. He also had other interests outside GAA-Equestrian events, politics local and national, the Fianna Fail Cumann both local & regional. He played both Gaelic Football for Glaveys and Hurling for Tooreen. He was a Player on the Intermediate Team that won the Club Championship in 1970,1971, and 1972. He mentored many Underage Teams & coached the 1981 Division 1 (Urban) Championship winning Minor Team. His longstanding involvement with the Club from the early years continued up to recent times as ardent supporter and analyst to all Teams and Mentors both for training and Fixtures-Home and Away. To recall all of John's achievements and involvement with the Club would take a book or 2. Míle buíochas from us all John for your immense contribution to the Club. Your legacy will be there for future years and a great foundation for current and future generations to continue to develop and enhance. Your presence and support will be missed from the Club you nurtured and loved. Enjoy your eternal rest. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis. Go n-éirí an bóthar leat.

Our combined U-20 GAA Team & their Management of Seamus Burke, Sean Burke, Conor Ruane, Brendan Greene, & Brendan Crawley contested the Division 1 U-20 Final V Roscommon Gaels for a 2nd consecutive year. The Club were deeply saddened to hear of the death of our Former Trustee, Coach, Development Officer, & Fundraiser extrodnaire , Michael James Kelly. RIP. The Club owe immense gratitude to him for his exceptional voluntary spirit in the development of Peadar Earley Memorial Park -formely Sampey's Lawn & the Complex. He was a member of the Michael Glaveys Parks Committee from its inception in 1980 & he & his fellow Committee Members advanced the various projects to completion. All obstacles and difficulties were resoluted with ease, as that was his great way. Michael James's great 'can do attitude' and infectious personality motivated all to keep going and get the work done. He under took the Trusteeship of the Club with other Club stalwarts until recent times, when GAA HQ changed this to Corporate. This was a big responsibility & we are eternally grateful to him & the others for this very generous gesture. He also found time despite his very busy working & Family life to coach underage Teams & was a very astute 'reader' of the game. He was the Supervisor of the first Youth Employment Scheme & he shaped the next generation of young men with his abundant knowledge of practical skills and great tuition.
Michael James had great charisma, was excellent company, and had time and interest in every generation. His great 'grá' for the Club and its well being never waivered. Our very sincere and deepest sympathies to his devoted Wife Bernie, his adored Family Michael, Brendan, Kevin, Ann Marie, Sean, Helen, & their Families, his beloved Sister Rose, the extended Kelly, Gaffrey, & Byrne Families. You are all in our thoughts & prayers at this sad and difficult time. May all who grieve his passing know every comfort and solace. Michael James has passed, but he leaves a great legacy.
