Kara and I are whodunit junkies. We enjoy NCIS & CSI (multiple flavors), Hawaii 5-0, Blue Bloods, 48 Hours, and movies in the same genre. We also spend time watching Netflix movies, sports and Masterpiece Theatre. The problem: we’re sitting too much! I realized that on 5/3 when talking with a young guy, Sam, at my Mom’s 94th birthday celebration. Sam showed me his Fitbit device that’s so much more than a pedometer. It calculates step-climbing, quality of sleep, miles walked, and calories burned. It also has a social dimension - enabling groups of Fitbit wearers to compare their progress via Facebook, Twitter and other social networks. At the outset I just wanted to lose 10 pounds and get more active. I bought the Fitbit One, which has a clip-on attachment and a very comfortable cloth strap for getting sleep feedback. In 5 days, I have lost 3.5 pounds! The recommended number of steps per day is 10,000, which equates to about 4 miles/day with a 2 foot stride. After setup, feedback comes using fitbit.com’s Dashboard (see my graphic excerpt).
I was a little surprised that the device did not seem to be working today while walking at the Galleria. It just needed to be charged using a USB cable. Once charged it updated my stats and showed I only have about 500 more steps to make 10,000 today. I will be happy to help anyone in our Club get started.
Next month we have elections and our end of year luncheon ($14.00/member), catered by E. Fishkill Provisions, which served us well last year. Please bring your checkbook our meeting this month. Lunch will be served at our Hall at 12:15.
Our speaker on Thursday, May 21st is New Paltz Author, Frances Dunwell, speaking on: “Natural and Cultural History of the Hudson River.”

Family Promise of the Mid Hudson Valley
Thank you from Family Promise of the Mid Hudson Valley.
Many new links have been added to the "Best of the Hudson Valley" section, thanks to the material Mary has been putting out on the table at our meetings. If you click on one of the flyers below you will get a larger view of it or go to Event.
If you have something you would like posted (a Restaurant, a Show or other Entertainment, a Place of Interest, or an Event) please let us know. This can be used just like the bulletin board we had at each meeting for awhile and the info Mary puts on the table at our meetings.
