    February 20, 2014 Meeting

    Message from the President:
    March 31, 2014
    April Message

I am very happy to be finished with taxes and having saved several hundred dollars by using AARP’s free tax service.  Prior to hearing Ed Broderick speak at our meeting earlier this year, I believed the service had income restrictions that would have precluded me from using it.  That message was also conveyed in an earlier article in the Poughkeepsie Journal.  It was rectified in the 3/30/14 article in the Journal, in which both Ed Broderick and I were quoted (see elsewhere in this site).  I hope some of our members availed themselves in this regard and also found it worthwhile.

I have discovered 2 worthwhile apps on my ipad (also available on other tablets): 1) TinyScan, which saves me time when I need to make a copy of a document and I don’t have a scanner nearby.  It creates a photo (JPG format), which can easily be mailed, printed, or incorporated into a document.  The second app, SignNow, enables signing of a document, obtaining additional signatures, and sending the resultant document along to its intended recipient(s).   SignNow was used to sign a multimillion dollar athlete’s contract.  It is also being used in many Fortune 500 companies.  Both apps are FREE!

We’re finally seeing some springtime weather.  Time to plant some flowers, clean up needed areas around the home, and get some outdoor exercise!

On April 17th our program we will be educated in how to protect our Internet connected devices by Scott M. Hurley, NY State Police, Computer Crimes Unit.  He titled his talk: “Cybercrime - Protecting Yourself on the Internet.”  Come, bring a friend, and learn how to protect yourself while online!

                           Looking forward to seeing you!

    Ed McKenna, President

    • New(03/18/14)
From Ed McKenna: Here are some interesting links pertaining to
Unclaimed Money that you may want to take a look at.  The first is Money Matter$  and the second is Frequently Asked Questions from Unclaim.org
    • New(02/03/14)From Ed McKenna:

The Knights of Columbus will be having a St. Patrick's Fund Raising Dinner and Dance on March 15th, 2014.   If you’re interested please Click here for the details.

    • (11/20/13): (From Ed McKenna) The Spot 911 device.      I first became aware of "Find my Spot" last night at a MH Photographers Club meeting.  The presenter Greg Miller does landscape photography.  He works alone.  He gets up in the wee hours and is hiking on desolate trails before sunrise. To be safe in the event of any kind of attack or trauma event he caries a Spot device with him.  There is a 911 button on the device, which costs $100 (offered at Best Buy).  There also is a $100 service needed to handle the emergency calls.  $100 + $100 yearly offers peace of mind for anyone who might have health issues or is adventurous.
    •      I plan to refer to the Spot device in my opening remarks at our meeting next week.   Back in my flying days, this would have been a device I would want accompanying me on my trips!  Click here for more details.
There also are "Spot" devices for tracking your valuables, like your Ferrari or Maserati!  Or your wife's wedding ring! :-)   Some of those can be quite expensive.  The following is the Spot Website:  http://www.findmespot.com/en/
