Artocoinfo
From the maydata.xls file (a standard UCINET file but also available here), grab valued network contained in the artcoinfo tab and import it into ucinet. Call the result artcoinfo. This is a network representing how often each person seeks information from each other person.
Also from maydata.xls, import the attribute data for artco.
Dichotomize artcoinfo so that only values 5 and above are considered ties. Call the result artcoinfo5
Visualize artcoinfo5 using netdraw
In matrix algebra compute the indegree (column totals) of each node in artcoinfo5. Transfer to Excel and make a scatterplot with tenure (see maydata.xls) as the X-axis and indegree as the Y-axis. Plot a linear trendline including r-square and regression equation. What do you conclude?
Construct a density table for artcoinfo5 based on the hierarchy attribute. (Hint: use Networks|Cohesion|Density|Density by Groups). What's the pattern?
Class Data
Import the "prior acquaintance" network from an online survey of a past class. The raw data downloaded from the survey software is contained in an Excel file called results-survey. Here's a short video showing how to clean the data in Excel and transfer to UCINET:
