Feedback is frequently used to inform the student of their learning progress toward meeting goals, targets and outcomes. We use feedback as formative assessment to inform their own thinking and strategic planning. Feedback can be developmental in nature, and given in a way that will support the autonomy and self esteem of the learner. But some feedback is given for corrective purposes, to inform the recipient of undesirable behavior or direct the recipient to engage in more productive behavior. It is important to keep in mind that feedback can result in positive or negative changes in behavior.
