Mesolithic Miscellany

History of the Journal

Mesolithic Miscellany was established in 1980 by T. Douglas Price, University of Wisconsin, following discussions at the International Conference on the Mesolithic in Potsdam in 1978. Originally a newsletter that was published twice-a-year, it included any information relevant to the European Mesolithic, and was posted out for a small subscription fee to 69 subscribers. It was attached to the UISPP/IUPPS until 1987.

From 1996-2006 there was a break in publication. In 2006, Mesolithic Miscellany was recreated as a free internet newsletter. It currently has over 900 members on the mailing list, and more than 3000 followers on Facebook.

Accessing the Initial Run (1980-1996)

The project to scan the entire back catalogue (1980-1996) of Mesolithic Miscellany was initiated by Nicky Milner. It was generously funded by the Department of Archaeology, University of York, and could not have been undertaken without the Archaeology Data Service. You can download all issues here.
