Community Engagement

2018-2019 School Year:

• Chaperoned a 4 day, 3 night trip to Washington D.C.
• Brought a WWII Veteran in to speak to my students during our WWII unit.

2017-2018 School Year:

• Invited the Encampment for Citizenship to conduct a 1/2 day workshop for students.
• Brought a WWII Veteran in to speak to my students during our WWII unit.
• Planned and chaperoned a field trip to New York City for students to attend the Tenement Museum and 9/11 memorial.
• Brought a Yale Ph.D. student in to discuss her American Studies research and thesis process
• Alum, J. Zamboni, a sociology major at Berkshire Community College came into my class to conduct research for her course and speak with my students about sociology at the collegiate level.
• Chaperoned an exchange trip to Italy.

2016-2017 School Year:

• Chaperoned a 3 day trip to Washington DC for 10th Grade students
• Chaperoned a trip to Barrington Stage to see the play, Camping with Henry and Tom, for which I received a LEEF Grant
• Planned and led a Panel on the intersection of Policing and the Black Lives Matter Movement. Panelists included: Chief Wynn, Pittsfield PD, Lt. Traversa, Pittsfield PD, Chief O'Brien, Lenox PD, Officer Colvin, Lenox PD, Shirley Edgerton, Cultural Proficiency Coach, Pittsfield Schools, Dennis Powell, President of the Berkshire Branch, NAACP, Stacy Evans, Sociologist, BCC, Charles Park, English Professor, BCC
• Planned and chaperoned a trip to MASS MOCA to see Nick Cave's exhibit UNTIL
• Chaperoned a student leadership field trip to Ramble Wild
• Brought the Berkshire Immigrant Project to speak about oral histories
• Brought a Yale Ph.D. student in to discuss her American Studies research and thesis process

2015-2016 School Year:

• Chaperoned a trip to NYC's The Met and The Color Purple
• Chaperoned a trip to Barrington Stage for which I received a LEEF Grant

2014-2015 School Year:

2013-2014 School Year:

• Brought in a Holocaust Survivor to address the students of my History of Holocaust and Genocide class.
• Helped students create and host a panel on Modern Genocide with Scholars from the local colleges (Dr. Eric Reeves -Expert on the Darfur Genocide, Dr. Greg White - Expert on Border Relations, Dr. Jon Western -Chair of the 5 College International Relations Program, Ms. Hennia - Holocaust Survivor, Rabbi Justin David - B'nai Israel Northampton).
