Mechano-luminescence Lab has the Kyungpook National University’s most comprehensive postgraduate research program and is one of the world leader in research that supports the development of innovative fusion technologies among material science, automotive engineering, civil engineering and computer science for the safe and better human life.
We have core strengths in three main areas: heuristic materials synthesis, human friendly characterization, and computational theory. In other words, we discover and make new materials by using intelligent optimization strategy, we study their structure, dynamics and functionality on the basis of all human senses, and we use computation to understand, and predict how they will behave in various applications.
For the purpose, our laboratory invited five more co-professors to teach every students who involve in their interdisciplinary studies.
Co-Prof. Kee Sun Sohn : chemical synthesis, Sejong University
Co-Prof. Sung Hoon Kim : Computer Science, KNU
Co-Prof. Kwang Ho Lee : Fracture mechanics, KNU
Co-Prof. Ki Woo Kim : Automotive Engineering, Inha University
Co-Prof. IL Young Jang : Civil Engineering, Kumo National Univeristy
This synergetic approach to research is allowing ML-Lab to develop a variety of new materials & devices, and transfer these cutting edge technologies to industry. For example, one of our on going research is searching for binder compositions and debinding variables based on heuristic computational optimization and high through-put experimentation for the automotive part application in powder injection moulding processes of nano Al composite.
