Medical device data

Recently there has been an upsurge in studies using the medical devices industry as their setting. This industry is popular for four reasons:

  • high levels of (observable) entrepreneurship: it receives almost 10% of all venture capital (see NVCA data)
  • high levels of (observable) technological innovation: patenting is very common (see USPTO)
  • high levels of (observable) new product development: national regulation requires new product registration (see FDA)
  • high levels of (not so observable) R&D collaboration

Please read this one-page manual on how to collect and interpret FDA medical device data.
