70 Years Post-Brown: Looking to the Past, Transforming the Future
In the 1954 landmark case, Brown v. Board of Education, the Supreme Court ruled that racial segregation in schools was unconstitutional.
In commemoration of the 70th anniversary of this historic decision, the Monroe County NAACP invited the public to join us for engaging, action-oriented dialogue focused on improving the educational experiences of youth in our local community.
Our aim was to move beyond simply honoring a historical moment and toward a renewed commitment to equitable, quality education for all youth. The education schools committee continues to discuss the event and how to build coalitions / take action. Email mcbnaacp@gmail.com for more information about the event or to get involved.
Special thanks to our panelists Vivian Bridgwaters-Gray, Frank Motley, J.D., DaJuan Pearson, and Jael Davis; to our moderator, Dr. Gloria Howell; and to the organizations who supported the event.
