Original compositions by Matthew Stepka available on SoundCloud

Matthew started piano lessons when he was 10 years old. He was taught by Fred Kaiser. Mr. Kaiser had taught Matthew's mother and grandmother, and eventually his niece. He was a charming man with infinite patience and a true love for playing piano. Every week he assigned a classical and "popular” piece. Popular included ragtime, boogie-woogie and big band oldies from the 1930s, 1940s and into the 1950s.

Matthew enjoys playing piano and composing music to this day. He plays mostly improvisational jazz piano as well as composes pieces of his own in a variety of styles. He has attended classes at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music in jazz piano and music theory. Matthew's music is influenced by George Winston, Philip Glass, Scott Joplin and Frédéric Chopin, among others.
